If the vehicle is not in gear, yes it can be turned, although not freely. Turning the shaft by hand moves the vehicle and requires a bit of effort. I do this when undeneath to allow better access to the uni joint grease nipples - of course I do have chocks near the
wheels to prevent too much movement :-)

No you can't turn it freely.
By attempting to turn it you will turn the front diff, front axles, front cv joints and front
wheels therefore moving the vehicle.

Put it back in gear, that complicates the equasion....with transfer unlocked on the dash, and gearboxin gear...and with front hubs unlocked....if there is part time stuff in the transfer, the front shaft will be free to turn....if it is still constant in there, you wont be able to turn it.....
If you leave the box in neutral, the front shaft can turn either constant or part time...because if it is constant, the centre diff will allow you to turn the gearbox now it is uncoupled from the motor...

Assuming it is a constant 4WD, which I think is what he's saying, then there are no Free Wheel Hubs to unlock and therefore you cannot turn the front prop shaft without moving the vehicle.

so following on from that...if it doesnt move with the hubs unlocked, it is still constant and the hubs have been added without the transfer mods.....

chuka
when greasing my auto 80 I get one of the front
wheels off the ground, put auto in neutral and transfer lever in neutral and front driveshaft spins freely. Same for rear wheel / tailshaft.
