Hi all just wondering if anyone can help me. I am currently looking at buying a 2 Din DVD/CD/MP3 player with GPS Navigation Capabilities for my Cruiser. I want a unit that I will be able to download tracks onto when we do our trip around Oz and to use so we dont get lost. My plans are to also use the AV inputs to fit reversing cameras on van and car. I have seen a Pioneer and Kenwood unit over the weekend but its hard to know if the GPS capabilities will be up to scratch.
I also realise this unit will not come cheap but hey what else will I spend my tax return on.

Cheers All

Geez you don't want much do you, ....lol Mate I not sure if you can get a do all unit and if you can it probably won't record tracks, I would be doing it in a 3 part basis, a radio with a separate screen , and a separate GPS,
I would be going with JVC because it's MADE IN JAPAN, and the unit I would get is
the KD-AVX33 with Bluetooth Wireless Technology DVD/CD , it has a USB port to play your MP3s direct from a flash drive,Bluetooth as well, No moving parts to make it skip,
Site Link don't get the ones where the screen folds into the radio, too much to wrong with dust issues,

For a GPS to record your tracks for over 4000klms I would look at the Garmin Quest or the GPS Map 276C
see here for a demo.

and here for other Garmin units

Thanks for the reply Doug, I was looking at a Kenwood unit with a 6.5 inch touch screen this includes the DVD/CD/Tuner. The screen is constantly on display and only slightly tilts when putting in a CD or DVD. This unit will fill the slot nicely where my original unit will come out of. I think the navigation unit is a separate Kenwood component which will then plug into the back of the DVD unit. Since they are both compatable the navigation side of things can then be displayed and controlled on the 6.5 inch touch screen. I think you may be right I don't think the unit will record tracks. I currently still have a Garmin Street Pilot III but find it very slow when downloading or uploading tracks. In your honest opinion is this unit out of date in comparison to what's around nowadays?

Cheers

Street Pilot III is way out of date now with the Sreetpilot 2610 and 7200 with USB connections and the uploading of data to the new units is fast, the old serial ports are a bit like floppy discs and 45 EP records,

Hi Worm,
I think the best option and probably the only one that will do all that and more, is a car PC. It should even cost you less than a Kenwood 2Din unit including the camera and GPS. With the Ozi dollar doing so well against the USD, they can be had for around $1200.
This is my current setup and although I have tried a few systems, I won’t be moving away from a PC.

Thanks Chaz, your unit and install looks great. Didn't even know you could get something like that, it will suit my needs perfectly. I see that the carputer is a one din unit then it looks like there is a one din monitor unit (correct me if I am wrong). When purchasing did you have to buy each unit separately? Did you install the unit yourself? Gee I could quiz you all night but I wont. Mate thanks for sharing the info.

Cheers Worm.

Hi Worm,
I originally built up a small PC that was fitted under the driver’s seat of my GU and used a single din touch screen with a s/d DVD/tuner that replaced the factory CD/Tuner/Tape player. After about a year of successfully running the PC, I decided to update to the new Lilliput system that I have now. So far after about 6 months and numerous off road trips (including a few trips over SkyTrek) I’ve had no problems with it. Yes, they are two separate single din units, but are well matched and work well together. The monitor is available with built in analogue TV also, but I decided against it as I already have a digital TV fitted.
There are a few people selling them in Australia, but I found the best savings were to purchase from the USA, as a complete system, including GPS and reversing camera. Do a search on ebay for Lilliput Car PC or BlaXtream PC.
I’m using the BlaXtream PC and Lilliput GL-701 7” Monitor from “The Mobile-Computing-Solution (http://stores.ebay.com.au/The-Mobile-Computing-Solution)
The features of this system are extraordinary, from voice command navigation, to on board vehicle diagnostics and everything else that a PC can do including all my entertainment needs. Best of all was the price!
I fitted it myself, but it was a pain to do on the Patrol. I’m not sure how you would go with the Cruiser.
All the best,

Hi Worm
Don't know if this is too late but yesterday, Monday 23rd July 2007, I had a look at what you are after at Southern Car Care in Bunbury WA.
They are expensive ~ 3000+ but it does everthing, Reversing DVD GPS. Not sure if it keeps beer cold!!!!

Call Craig on 0897914440, he knows how it works as it is installed in their service ute. He is a great guy and will put you on the right track.

I just bought a new Hyundai Santa Fe and had a car protection package done quite a few dollars cheaper than what was offered everywhere else.

Cheers
