Well worth the visit.
Check this link

We left from Derby and trip included about 1 hours fishing and lunch on board a mother boat.
Do a google on "Horizontal Falls" for lots of info.
The trip from Broome is dearer and does not include the fishing.

At least that was the case when we went in 2005.

Hi Dunworkin

We visited Horizontal Waterfalls last year. It is worth of every penny. We took flight from Derby by seaplane (it is cheaper then from Broom). Flight, which includes travel by speedboat through first gap of Waterfalls. ! Make sure, you have highest tide you can get (11.5m/6 hours is highest).
It is one of those life experiences, which you can describe. You have to feel it, you have to live it……. I don’t know if you know what I mean….But one of those feeling is how small and insignificant we humans are in big structure of nature. Enormity of waterpower rushing between the gaps and harsh beauty of this area will absolutely take your breath away.
Yes, do it you will never regret it.
Cheers Dana

Dunworkin,

We took a trip from Derby out to the Horizontal Falls, August 2006. We went by seaplane from Derby and flew out over the mudflats and the islands to Talbot Bay where we landed and spent a few hours on the ship anchored there. There's coffee/tea/cold drinks and morning or afternoon tea available on the ship.

We went through the falls in a power boat where we had to straddle the middle seats. It was terrific fun.

It was amazing. I can't really describe just how impressive and awesome the force and the sight of the surge of the water through the falls is. I think doing this was one of the highlights of our trip.

There are quite a few tours out here. Some just fly over, some land in sea plane so you can see the falls but you don't go through and then others do what we did. If you google Horizontal Waterfalls then you will get lots of information and you can decide which one suits you the best.

Best wishes
Viv

Make sure you get the tides right. We were in Derby, but the tides were small and I missed the chance to see them in their full fury. But it is an excuse for me to return another time.

Ditto the above last June we did the trip from Derby ended up being about 51/2 hrs all up including 5 of us doing a n hours worth of fishing. Fishing was unbelievable. As per the others make sure you get the tides right. We were lucky as we had incoming, outgoing and the neep it was magic. Lunch was good and the main guid very interesting. There are 2 companies (was anyway), take the smaller plane. landing by seaplane was an experience in itself I've never experienced such a soft and smooth landing. Expensive couple of hours but I'd do it again in a heart beat. Used 1Gig of camera memory + my wife's small camera used almost a full memeory card. Fish were good for tea & breakfast as well.

Hi .We did the flight with last year with Reef flights out of Derby. Lee was the lady who we booked with she lived in a large blue bus in the Derby caravan park it was a bit cheaper to book direct rather than through the tourist beaurau . We also got further discount for a group booking we had 8 people. the plane was a 10 seater. she was extremely helpful especially working out absolute best tide times for photography also peak tide with a midday sun for best photography as any other time there is too much shadow for good photos. Lee also catered for one of our group with a bladder problem by supplying a sealed bucket. The flight left Derby airport & flew over land to the falls Landed on the inner lagoon & met up with the high speed boat we went through the falls several times also a bit of time on Talbot bay . Reef Flight was not associated with the big boat moored in the bay. That makes the trip a bit cheaper.
The Falls flight was the highlight of our 5 weeks on the Gibbriver road & the Kimberley's ,don't miss it but get the tides right or you will be dissapointed.

Cheers Bungarra.

To wet the appatite,

Have to agree with the others - a great experience. Do not miss and pick the best tide.

G'day David,

I used the second one on the bucket list which I believe is the one you are describing. Interstingly this is what I used before but then stopped working around the time Davoe was complaining. Even when I posted these the first go was rejected but then I came back 5 minutes later and it worked.

Will have to change my handle to labrat.

Kind regards

We did it in 2005. Fantastic.

Only disappointment was we found out when we got out to the mother ship that we could have stayed the night on the boat. You can go out on the last flight from Derby, and back next morning on after the first flight does its drop off.

The people we spoke to said it was an awesome experience and we wish someone would have told us before hand, we would have done the same thing.

Worth checking out the costs.

Trevor

Both the companies who land there with float planes offer overnight tours - only about $100 more than the short trip. Well worth it.

One company has a house boat with 3 double cabins - the other has a yacht with 1 two berth and 2 four berth cabins, however a lot of people seem to sleep on the deck.

The word around Derby was that the tour boat was using a rubber raft. The fly in tours both have boats similar to what the SAS and police use. Much safer craft.

From memory the one we were in took 6 or 8 people and had a 200HP on the rear - unlikely to have that sort of an engine on a rubber duckie.

Site Link contains a picture of the boat that both companies use to take you through the falls. If I remember correctly the over night fare with this company was $565.

Hi PeterD, thanks for the link, gives us an idea what we will be up for $ wise. According to the website there are two prices, one $415 and the other, under tour rates is $495, guess we will have to wait until we get there to see what the actual charge is.
