Have a friend who bought a Magellan Explorist XL. Took it on our trip and had aweful trouble trying to operate it. Instructions seemed insufficient. He plans to go to a session of tutorial/intruction to learn how to use it. Are they all this difficult to use? Which are the simplest to use?
I have the opportunity to get a Navman F20 or TomTom One with my Altitude rewards. These are probably entry level units, but do they take oziexplore and raster maps or only TomTom proprietary software? Will they do for off road tracks, etc.

Some details of the problems that you had would help us to help you.

I don't really want to know how to use the Magellan. That's my friends problem. I'm more interested in an answer to the second part of my thread about the Navman and TomTom.

Not that I know of. OK for around towns but not much use for serious off road use & you cant (as far as I know) download OzEx & Natmap onto them.

You can only use the Tom Tom and the Navman F20 as they are sold. No additional data can be added. What you see is what you get. You cannot load other Tom Tom products onto it. The same applies to the Navman F20.

Hi Twinkles
Tom Tom etc are really road Navigators not GPSes (what is plural of GPS)
as we traditionally know them.
There are a number of models with crossover features e.g. NUvi, Quest that take
and allow the selection of alternate map sets, and are easy to use ,but they do not take Oziexplorer raster maps, your better off with PDA to use them, but they are more complex to set up and operate.
I think the Garmin interface is a little simpler , but you really have to learn and set up all of the non-navigator types.

Thanks for the info. I won't go for the Nabman or TomTom.
