A blast from the past for a few of you.

I can remember when I was about 10, I would eagerly await dad filling the car so I could use the old cardboard fuel consumption slide rule. All I could remember was 25mpg was great and dad would be happy and anything less than 20 was bad.... This was in a 253 VC Commodore.

I was thinking today, wonder if dad still has it, or when could I get one.

Good old google to the rescue!

Cardboard fuel consumption calculator

Now I will eagerly await the moment I have to spend $150 to fill the tank ... so I can get me old slide rule out

Wazza.

Shhh. If Dave knows his customers he will create an ExplorOz version that he hands out for free to new members - he could do metric one side and imperial the other...

Oh, and he could do a Fitch version too ;-)

Cheers
Andrew.

This is great - my TOTAL one is nearly stuffed and I tried once before to unfold it and copy it but was no good. I'll see how the new one goes - as an OF still like cross referencing to mpg.
cheers for that

Your post makes me remember back to 1966 when I stopped at the 235 Mile post North of Alice Springs to add to my old EK from the Jerry Cans, I had a photo somewhere with the mile post in it, The car run out of fuel at that point and just did a calc' at 26.1mpg because the tank was a 9 gallon, so yep that old 25/27 mpg was the thing back then,
I didn't have a card but do remember them , the one I remember was round ,

Thanks Wazza
Have still got one I picked up in 1979 but it is worn out. Have been wondering if I could redraw it or something. Now I can make as many as I like!!!

There are a few traps making this slide rule. The problem seems to be in the printer software. It can print each half a different length. I have a canon MPC 190. My mate recomended some software of the net called Xn View. Its free and allows you to get the correct measurements. Some printers may do it right first time but I had to muck around for ages. Got it right in the end. It needs to be printed on card not normal paper. Dont know why I really wanted one. Does nothing I cant do an a calculator.
