gday all,
just bought a 100series td off a bloke who only ever used fuchs oils. he highly recommends this product. the car is now due for service and fuchs oils are, i found out, dearer than most. i know ythis is a petty question but not being a mechanical know all, do i continue with the fuchs oil or use the
mobil oil my mechanic recommends?
cheers dave

FUCHS oil is good but when we were buying by the 44 a couple of years back it was cheaper than the other name brands?? and we used in everything on the boat-engine, generator, gearbox, hydraulics, steering etc etc.
If the
MOBIL is the correct grade and type for your TD there is NO REASON WHATSOEVER not to use it.

I have been using fuchs in my 1100cc motorbike for around 50,000kms now. I can't remember why I first started, but after changes it seemed to stay cleaner and 'more oily' (ie hadn't lost lubrication properties) than previous oils I had used (including
mobil).
Note this is not scientific, just what I observed when doing regular changes. It is also a different application, motorbike oils have different properties to other oils due to wet clutches etc.
I tend not to use it in my N/A 1HZ. I buy drums of whatever oil is available that meets specs. But I will go out of my way to buy it for the bike, as I know it is good.

"whatever oil is available that meets specs"
you hit the nail on the head there, with the proviso that the company whose name on the label is reliable with their labelling of course.
People sometimes waffle on that you shouldnt change brands as the engine gets "used" to it, and will sh*t itself if you change. Piffle. But you certainly are correct that a MC engine has different requirements and are restricted in what can be used.
Id probably use FUCH's in my 100TD but I dont often see it in smaller quantities. We only bought it in 44's at $698.

mobil and the like.

not necessarily better. But it did work
well in all our machinary and was cost effective (at least it was???) What I do believe is that the quality difference between equivalent reputable oils is much less than the price difference which can be 100%. Quality definitely isnt 100% better and you wouldnt know if it was anyway!

I have the same motor - used the 15W40 Fuchs for a few years and now use the 15W40 Gulf Western stuff that is CI-4 and in 20litre drums. Don't worry about the brand, look at the specs and viscosity, which should all be above that specified by Toyota.

Dave, I'm no mechanic either, but I really admire a good bricklayer! Fantastic skill.
Your Toyota manual will tell you to use different oils for different temperatures. Translated, that means you need a 15W40 or 10W40 for the conditions we get over most of Australia. Secondly, the specs of that oil need to be CF grade or higher.
So any diesel engine oil that is CF, CF-4, CG-4, CH-4, or CI-4 is fine. Most Toyota dealers and workshops use a mixed fleet CF grade oil.

We use
Mobil Delvac 15W40 in the Big Diesel MTU's at work, that's probably just cause that's what MTUDDC tell us to stick in LOL
It was Shell at one stage too, but
Mobil Looks to be the new oil now.
Mobil is a Good oil same a Fuchs, Go with what ever, If you can get it easily stick with the Fuchs, otherwise just go with the
Mobil, A mechanic is going to tell you to use what ever oil he uses in his workshop.
cheers.

I have been using Fuchs oil for a while now, as I have started buying it in 200l drum.
I use it in every vehicle on the place, Diesels, petrols and gas, small motors and large, and having no problems with it.
Use there gear oil's too.
As above, just make sure the rating is correct and I dont think it matters which brand.
Cheers Pesty
