Hi all,
We will be calling in through
Kalbarri in October for about 1-2 days and would like to ask anyone who has been there, what is the best
places not to be missed.
We haven't been there before and don't want to miss the best attractions up there.
Cheers

Not a
Kalbarri regular myself, and depends what you like.
River/gorge
views are spectacular, easy 2wd from town. Pretty good fishing in river, beach & rocks. Should still be plenty of
wildflowers through the national
park. Golf course, quad bike tours, fish & chips, bit of historical stuff.
Very touristy so you can get most things there - maybe you should do a bit of googling?

There is a great parrot display at a place just out of town - from memory they have a small cafe there as
well.
There is also the best home made ice cream available from the kiosk at the mini golf place.
Watch the boats come in - talk to the fishermen and see how much can be made from one basket of fish - also try the north west snapper wings - yummy!!

There's a great fish restaurant tucked away in the industrial area, in the old ice-works. Finlays is as rough as, but a fun meal. BYO and you get yelled at and abused if you don't hear your number called. The serviettes are a dunny roll!

Rainbow Jungle is name of parrot display.
Nature's Window and Z-bend are
the gorge displays. There are also long hikes in these areas.
The Natural Bridge and Red Buff are also worth a bit of the look. Great fish and chips.
My f-i-l stayed there a couple weeks ago ( just before the school holidays), he liked the
Anchorage CP, right on the river foreshore.

All the
places mentioned so far. Bird
park is
well worth the visit. They now have a
lookout tower with telescope. There is a small
lookout on the way down into town. Coastal gorges heading south wards; call in at them all on a half day drive. The road continues on the
Port Gregory. If staying out at
Red Bluff CP, take a walk around
the Bluff and back along the road. Fishing off the rocks at
Red Bluff. If you fish from the sandbar in town at dusk, you will get small bream on the river side; occasional sea fish on the ocean side. Interesting watching boats come and go through the tricky opening in the sand bar.
When you've been to the scenic gorges, you can take a drive to the river at the start of the
park. 4wd only - don't take a trailer. As you get down towards the river, the track left overlooks a 'maze' where the
water runs up and down across the rocks if river is low. The right track goes very steeply alongside the station fence down to a
pool, and although i don't know if legal to
camp (unsure if actually just inside the National
Park or just onto the station of when you get there) but we have stopped overnight a few times, and there was plenty of evidence of previous campers.
You can drive from the town along the river, but it is flat and you won't reach the gorges this way.
Kalbarri is one of the neatest kept tourist towns i have seen, and
well worth spending a few days there. The town itself is growing rapidly with subdivisions for retirees and holiday homes.

Rest needy, the best
places not to be missed in
Kalbarri are those where the flies aren't.
Do yourself a big favour if you must go - buy some fly nets for the face.
Happy waving
