Hello Members could I get your opinions regarding installation of Software to enable the use of GPS position with a
HF Radio. I understand there are no organisations that are authorised to legally accept info (voice only authorised) so is it really worth Paying hard earned money to enable this feature. I am told the Authority has been asked about this over a number of years but nothing has ever happened. Regards to all

Hi,
If you get yourself an Amateur Radio license then you can transmit your position data on the APRS HF and VHF frequencies. This will enable you to be tracked on the internet.
Have a look at this link:

AFAIK this situation only applies to the VKS network. Another network appears to have this facility, as
well as email over HF.

May I suggest that you try joining the
HF radio club (
http://www.hfradioclub.com.au). For your $50 annual
membership you will not only get to meet a great bunch of people, you will also get access to a large number of frequencies, very competitive phone rates and 3 base stations across Australia but also access to some of the most knowledgeable HF people in the country. The members of the club are situated across the country and are more than willing to pass their knowledge onto new members. Worth at least a phone call or email to the club management team to have a chat.

HF Radio Club
membership is $65 for the year commencing 1/7/2007 ending 30/6/2008.
There is an existing HF network that actually has an email setup running world wide and they are based at Pipeclay
Creek near Nabiac in NSW.
I am trying to remember the name but it eludes me for the moment .
They are basically a marine emergency network and it is manned 24/7 and now I think the name is Pentacom but please dont hold me to that.
VKS 737 and
HF Radio Club that is also licenced to use Rieds radio data frequencies and for the cost of membersghip it is good value for money to be in both.
