Hi All
I have a friend with a 1983 petrol (2 litre toyota motor I believe) Diahatsu Rocky with overheating problems. The radiator , hoses and fan are all good.
A new thermostat was installed and overheating still occurred , however when the thermostat is removed it no longer overheats.
Both thermostats open when tested in a saucepan of hot
water.
Any ideas of what else to look for ?
Cheers

Maybe the radiator needs a professional clean and have you looked at the coolant?

Maybe a stuffed
water pump, or blown head gasket too? Welsh plugs ok? After a few years they can develop a small pinhole in them due to corrosion , heater core blocked? There's a vast number of reasons for it to over heat, but just try one by one I guess, process of elimination.Hope it works out. Unc

Has the radiator been professionaly cleaned out? Also check hoses are not closing up. Your friend really needs a mechanic to look at it , could be cheaper in the end . If the motor is faulty brand new 4y motors in a crate are avaibable for about $1300.00.
Cheaper than reapairing a head problem

Thanks for the replies guys , I just checked again with him and it has new radiator hoses and
water pump. Radiator has been flushed out but I don't believe the tanks have been off and rodded.
I was starting to wonder if the head is corroded blocking off some of the
water galleries.
Cheers
