Hi Doug ,

This is OT , sorry , but I know you are THE MAN on GPS .

I need to buy a good handheld with all the bells and whistles and good battery usage time for gold detecting .

I do not need it for use in the car as I have moving Ozi moving map for that .

What I need is a handheld that will talk to Ozi , so that I can transfer data from the map on where to go , and vice versa .

What do you suggest ?

Thanks ,

Willie .

Hiya Willie
As you know I'm strictly Garmin, maybe if you need Ozi them I think Magellans might be whayt you need, ....any Magellanites out there.....but if your gouing to run the Ozi on a laptop then I reackon this little beauty is what you require.
Rino 520: Two-way radio with GPS - keeping you on track and in touch
Rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to 16 hours of outdoor use.

Doug ,

I use a laptop in the car and I need the GPS to easilly tansfer data from the laptop to it and vice versa . Will the 520 do that , or does it's mapping software cause a problem with OziExplorer ?

Do Magellans talk to Ozi more easilly than Garmin ? My big old MAP24 Magellan GPS will not communicate with Ozi too well and I have to get it converted in Babel )

Basically I just want to make a way point in Ozi on the laptop and transfer it easilly to the GPS unit .

Thanks ,

Willie .

I am certain the rhino would do that, as long as the GPS has a connecting cable that run from gps to laptop/pc , Of course if you don't require the uhf radio then this one would be OK but remember you must get a gps that has Internal Li-ion battery so it will go all day, The Quest would be ideal, to save me from going into much detail I think it would be best if you have a look at my Quest Demo and what it can do , Also remember Ozi is compatible with Garmin units , especially USB ,
my Demo page has some large screen shot photo's so just give it a few seconds to load up

I think that lot will keep you busy for the rest of the week....lol

Mate I would look at Honda or Engel Generators if I were to get one, and I know they will all say a cheaper brand and how theirs is so good, If I buy one I only want to buy it once , so go for the best , go to the bottom of my 4x4 page and click on them

Good morning DougT (WA)
Have been reading lots on this forum and very informative. My hubby and I have a 36' motorhome and are nearly on the road. We are in the middle of the GPS problem which one is for us. My reason for writing is to tell what we did wrong and maybe save others the same. We had bought a lappy a couple of years ago with the idea that we could use it when we went away for keeping in touch and GPS. First mistake bought the wrong one ours is 19v 6.3a. Cant plug into 12v cig.Need to run inverter! Second put aircon in 2hp too big need 6.5kva to run!. We had hoped not to have had to run genny or invert. Our bus 24v system and wanted to keep everything in this range. We have solar power and all seems to be running well.My point to newies like us make sure you buy items that will run on the power you have. Now we are looking at diesel gennys to run our air con.The GPS will take me a little longer to understand but thanks heaps for your site.
Cheers happy camping

Thanks for the comments, You know that Garmin GPS Units run on voltage from 12v to 35v so the 24v won't be an issue

this is for Nuvi 660 & StreetPilot c510
Power Input: 12V/24V DC.
Usage: 10 watts maximum @ 13.8 VDC.

and the Mag 276C
Power Input: 11-35VDC
