I have heard of people making stoneguards out of shadecloth that connect to back of the vehicle and then connect to the front of the camper / van.
Does anybody know of this? Do you have any pictures? Can you explain how and where you connect it upto on the car and the camper?
Thanking you in advance for any helpful information.

Darian,
Thank you. That is exactly what I am after. What do you fit the ockies to on the car?

After getting the shadecloth size about right....
I put a PVC rod across the front edge (to keep it all straight). The cloth can be glued on to the rod or stiched on with cable ties. There is a 150mm loop of shock cord on both sides of the rod (seen in pic). The shock cord is poked down behind the bumper - I use an ocky strap each side from below to pull the shock cords in and down.... hooked onto anything handy, but away from the exhaust.
I put a couple of those plastic, pop-in eyelets near the back and front of the cloth panel - the back end is then hooked via ockies to whatever can be found on the camper.
The whole thing is flexible, allowing for pulling to and fro while turning. Has done a few trips to date - will require replacement soon but - it has been working, keeping those nasty stones at bay (such as seen on the road surfaces pics on my site).

Darian
Thanks very much for the reply.
Sorry I didn't get reply sooner but very busy on the weekend trying to get camper organised before we leave in 2 and half weeks didn't have time to get on the net.
Again thanks for the time you took to reply and the info, it is just what I was looking for.
Much appreciated.

This set up works
well for me... the construction is a aluminium tube. The shadecloth is attached using electrical conduit offcuts sliced down one side and put over the tube - works really
well.
The shadecloth did sustain some damage - small holes from rocks and a tear from a stick.
Sorry about the
Gibb River Road mud.
Cheers
Andrew.

It's for protecting the car... and it was fine despite 7 or 8,000 k's of dirt...
The mud on the GRR was impossible to b e protected from.
