Mud Crab,
The
Birdsville track itself is not challenging but it can be stoney in sections so if you were to have plenty of time and slowed to the right speed, you could take almost anything up there but I wouldn't take anything less than a proper offroad trailer as I don't have the skills necessary to keep things going if something fails. If you have the skills then I would say do it but if you are like me then I wouldn't. My Supreme 16ft offroad van and Nissan have just got back from there without any problems but then again this is what tthis van is built to cope with. The
water tank guard was smashed to bits but still did it's job in keeping the
water tank safe. No flats, but let van down to 35psi (normally run 65psi) and car was running 28 fr and 32 rear.
Check out the Treks section of this website and you will find info regarding most treks in that region.
Walkers Crossing is closed at this stage but who knows what it will be doing in 06/08.
Hope all this is useful.
Regards, Trevor.

Hi Mud Crab,
I come in from
Brisbane through
Windorah, onto
Birdsville and then sth to Maree, Leigh Ck and met up with the rest of ExplorOz members at the Warraweena gathering in the top of
Flinders Ranges. So the full length of Birsville track was covered. Worst section of entire trip was last 40km coming into Birdville from
Windorah.
Regards, Trevor.
