Just a quick note about the near perfect conditions for close to melbourne snow driving this weekend,

We got caught up winching some fallen trees and only decided at 3pm today to head for the nearby hills at Buxton north of the black spur which is not far from Healsville.

We drove via Blue range rd south from Rubicon over the ranges to Mt Margret and down to Buxton.

The snow began low at some 500m and continued all the way for the next 25km reaching depths of over 30cm and it was really diff scraping stuff.

Despite many cars having driven it the wheel tracks could not penetrate down to the road surface and its as good as I have seen it for maybe 10 years.

Was an really excellant drive as the sun set with lots of fallen trees and snow high into the branches.

Only had at tyres on and slipped off tracks once , but quickly recovered. The surface was icing up as we finished our drive about 5:30 with air temp about 1c

Thanks for the timely report Robin. The boys and I are heading up that way in about 15 minutes! Was unsure of access due to reported road closures during the week due to storm damage & snow.
