We are having a problem with the fuel gauge on our 2nd car a MAGNA TL series.
The gauge is erratic , when the
tank is full and after approx 50kms is shows 1/2 full and around 100klms the fuel light comes on. We can fill the
tank and the gauge shows full ,only to find the same erratic display again after a few kms. We average 9.5 klms / 100 around town.
Has anyone experienced this ???.

I had a friend with a similar problem in a late model Commodore. He ran out of fuel with the guage showing near half full. Apparently it was quite a common problem. He took the car to a dealer where they recalibrated. Fairly sure it was free, and didn't take too long (though he did have to book it in).

I had a similar problem with a new magna.
Long story short;
The dealer did the following (some of whch they did not get reimbursed by mitsubishi for);
a. replace gauge
b. replace sender (in
tank)
c. replace instrumenation voltage regulator
Turned out to be a ben return line in the fuel
tank stopped the float from going down pash 1/3. Even their Technican Specialist from region HO could not find it - but the apprentice did when he removed the sender assy and LOOKED at it.
Could also be a cracked board in the instrument panel.

Thanks Guys, The fuel sender is the problem, dealer is fixing it on friday.
I had a look at the australian magna club site , it appears that mitsubitsu has replace heaps of senders.
Thanks again,
