Just read about the guy taken (presumably) by a croc at Boroloola - apparently been up there heaps - just shows you can never let your guard down with these huge creatures.

It's "presumed" that a croc has got him.
From the NT Times ....... He and his wife were fishing when his prop got tangled in a net and while he was reaching over the side of the boat to try and get it free his wife slipped and jammed the throttle wide open and throwing him out. The boat then went out of control for some distance until it finally ended up on a sandbar. She was found still in the boat some time later in an "hysterical" condition by some other fisherman.
I don't think it was a matter of letting his guard down, just one of those stupid accidents that comes along when "it's your number that's come up".

Geoff
I suspect your definition may have more truth than media reports. A friend of
mine had this happen around three years ago.
They where fishing in the Nowa Nowa Arm, when he asked his Shirla Person to take the helm. She floored the throttle and sent him to the back of the boat.
Met up with him a week later, sporting cracked ribs, broken nose and heavy bruising.
He now won't let a women in the boat!

Kim

I have a friend who is a small cruise ship captain (40 pax) doing regular trips backward and forward
Darwin to
Broome. He says he has never seen so many crocs and much bigger than ever before. Anyway I will let everyone know when I get to "croc city central" in Arnhem Land / Gove in a weeks time. If the croc reports are true then we plan to sleep in the swag on the roof of our troopy just to be sure. My other plan which my wife vetoed was that she would sleep on the
water side!!
Regards
Graham

Just read the report on the NT Times site. Perhaps crocs ended up with him, but I suspect he was drowned
well before that.
I was interested as I was up there fishing the same area earlier this year and plan on going back next year.
As said above, I think this one should do down as an unfortunate and tragic accident, not a croc attack.
Although my wife has a boat licence and knows how to handle the boat, it is a good reminder to me to make sure she maintains the skills, which she does not use often.

He was reaching over to untangle something from the prop with the engine running !!!! Sounds a bit fishy.

Zuk, Maybe a 'crock' of gold insurance policy.
The story does not sound right. If you have something around the prop shaft you do not stick your hand down there with the motor running.

Ah crocs, very dangerous and efficient predators. At least you can see them most times and know that they are around. What about the human predators in our communities, preying on the
young and weak. At least the crocs generally fulfill a useful role in nature and the food chain. As for 'human predators' - nothing but despicible low lifes who serve absolutely no useful purpose and who should probably all be fed to the crocs. Though I guess it would only be a matter of time before someone complained to the RSPCA in defense of the crocs.
