Probably not :)

Fisher have been making detectors for a long time and produce a quality product. I think the Goldbug is a VLF detector whereas the newer detectors are PI - don't worry about the details but PI will go deeper.

Nevertheless and in direct contradiction to the Explore Oz mantra of "you get what you pay for" you do not need a $6000 Minelab to find gold, the Goldbug will do the job with the right man swinging it.

Having said that and because the well known, easily accessible, places have been swept by the guys with PIs you'll need to be a bit sneaky and seek out areas which have not been worked much or, in the worked areas, investigate the hard to get at places or the spots which people think won't contain gold.

Prospecting is a lot more than just acquiring a detector; the really hard work is learning the geology of gold bearing land and applying that knowledge to real places.

At the end of the day - gold is where you find it :)

The best forum in Oz for Metal Detecting and Prospecting is at Link - you'll find all you need to know and more there (except for the gold - you'll have to do that for yourself).
