Hi Everyone,

I am hoping someone may be able to help us out. We have just got back from two weeks in Exmouth. We had a great time, however it seems every kid other than ours had their bikes there. Which led to us being the lousiest parents apparantly as I said they couldnt take theirs.

However, being the good dad I am....I said they can take them next year if I could find a bike rack that can fit onto the camper trailer. I am reluctant to put them inside the Camper Trailer and would rather have them on the rear of the van. I am yet to see a bike rack used with a Treg coupling.

Has anyone else that owns a Coromal PS series van with the spare wheel on the rear found a good bike rack? May at times need to hold 4 bikes, but usual use will be just the two kids bikes.

If someone could please point me in the right direction I will reinstated as a good dad in the kids eyes.

G'day Ash - I hope somebody has an answer. I went to an engineering co. and asked what they could do about putting a rack at the back of my Silhouette 390. NOoooo they said. The bumper bar will not take the load and even if I insisted they would not do it (not prepared to take the risk). Well I respected that and am still looking! We (wife & I) have been putting our bikes inside. A pain but that is all we can do.
cheers

Thanks for the response Fred. I was prompted to ask here as when we were travelling back from Exmouth to Bunbury I saw a bike rack that was slipped over the back of the spare wheel (something like a paper clip arrangement) and I thought wow...thats what I want. But do you think I could catch him to have a closer look. So am hoping will be back able to find something similar.

I know thi sis not much use to you, but when I had mine built I had another meter added to the draw bar and had a bike rack put on the draw bar.

Thule make the best bike racks on the market. We have 2 thule "spare me" racks on the spare wheel of patrol and rear spare of caravan (but was on the back of jayco camper for 18mths - rear bar needed strengthening). We also have 2 roof top bike racks which fit into rhino commercial racks (35.00 dollars each which is real cheap for a roof rack mounted rack - I dont think this attachment is advertised on the rhino web site). There a million and one ways to carry bikes. god luck. Ebay is also a cheap way to pick up a bike rack.

Ash,

Hi, I went through this process only last week. Rhino sell a bike rack that goes on the spare wheel but it is for a 4 x 4 car only. When I asked questions about putting on the back on the jayco swan, they straight away said "NO". They do not recommend it at all. The bouncing around of the van makes it too unsafe to put a bike rack on. She said that they had quite a few come back previously and had reports of them coming off by snapping the bolt, so they no longer recommend it.

It obviously was not what I wanted to hear but I now understand while they say NO and tend to agree with them.

We are going for 5 months and would love to take the kids bike but they are just going to have to live without them.

By the way the bike rack was only $150.00 and you can contact Rhino on their tollfree number in the white pages. They were extremely polite and informative about it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks heaps GeorgieGirl. Not really what I wanted to hear as well...but you get that. Might have to look at something else.

THe one I saw had the straps attached to roof racks on the top of their Coromal which in itself was a surprise as we were told you couldn't put roof racks on these either. I can now see they attached them in this particular manner to perhaps prevent some of bounce occuring.
