Hi Guys,

We (the family) are planning on spending 11 nights on Kangaroo Island in October. Would like to camp (in NP) in two different locations. Any suggestions? Keen to take the kids fishing, therefore near water (should not be a problem) is a prerequisite,

Cheers,

Mark

lovely place to spend your holiday, there is a nice spot next to the river" Chapman River" lots of small bream for the kids, good swimming and a short walk to the beach, another good spot is American River, hot showers, good camping spots and about 100mt walk to the pier. good fishing there also.

Hi Mark
if u like river fishing there are bream in most of the rivers(this is a slight exaggeration creek is about it), if you like sea fishing then salmon are common around the south coast and western end towards Flinders chase (Hansen Bay all the way around to West Bay) If u know what sort of bottom to fish u will catch whiting off the rocks around Middle River, Stokes Bay, Western River, Vivion Bay, Deestree's Bay, u will beable to catch rock cod and sweep everywhere inbetween depends if u want to eat your catch, you can also catch mullett on a lot of the beaches mentioned above, u will also catch tommy roughs, garfish and squid off the jetties as well. I didn't get home last Christmas but the previous 2 years the fishing has been great.
Good luck.

Spent about ten days there last Christmas - hot as hell! Stayed at Flinders Chase - good facilities but like camping in a car park. Also at West Bay - drop dunny only but really pretty and can fish there (although I don't). Camped at Harvey's Return - really pretty and sheltered, but long way to water. Also at Murray Lagoon - very open, might be cold in October. East end of island is mostly very exposed.
Should visit Admiral's Arch and Seal Bay - kids will love them. Remarkable Rocks also worth a visit. Lots of good walks. Suggest West Bay and Harvey's Return as the pick of the camping places we stayed at.

Hi Mark
It's a great place, used to spend about 6 weeks a year there as a kid.
Take great care when driving on any unsealed roads on KI as they are mostly ironstone and covered in pebbles, can be like driving on marbles.
Take even greater care of your kids at Remarkable rocks, great to visit, just don't let them out of your sight.
Have fun
Cheers Lyndon
