Ordered a new key for the patrol, 90 bucks! Doesnt fit, call them up and they say its out of their control and I would have to order a new one, so I take it to a key cutter and he modifies it so now it fits in the car. Then of course the engine cuts out. SO I call them up and they say oh you have to come in and get it setup for my vehicles imobiliser.
Well they could have mentioned that when I ordered the key and they sent it to me instead of stuffing around. Does anyone know how long it takes them to set the key to the cars imobiliser? Hope they dont expect more money for this. 90 bucks sounds ridiculous for a new key.

Hi Justin,
Try buying one for a RAV4, you aren't half way yet, however they will probably do it for free
Cheers, Jerry

It takes about 30 seconds to do the key, you need to take them both in because both have to be reprogrammed at the same time.
They had
mine for about 15 minutes.

Write to Nissan Australias head office and complain to them about the poor customer service and mention that you have put this on a number of forums - bad publicity travels fast.

Post your problem on www.notgoodenough.com
When Nissan see their name on this site they will act. They hate such world wide unfavourable publicity.

Get A life mate!
This is how much things cost now, The programming of the key would have been obvious if you had ever even READ your cars user manual !!!!
The key has a proximity ID chip in the handle and stops people stealing your bloody car !
Go buy a toyota, you will blend in with the rest of them.

Prado came with 3 keys. Two with remote lock/unlock buttons and one with just a plastic head (able to get wet). All have immobiliser chips in the plastic head.
Have heard that to replace one of the remote keys the price is around 200 bucks plus. The kicker is that each key ID is registered in a "slot" on the central computer in the car and there are only 5 "slots" available. Once you have filled the slots and need more keys you must buy a new computer chip that is around $1,000. Then you pay for even more keys!!!
Be careful what you do with keys. It can lead to a very expensive exercise. All to try and protect your investment from the low life scum that make everyones lives just that bit harder every day.
Cheers
Muddy

Justin I would have thought $90 quite reasonable for a key with an imobilizer, cheap in fact compared to other brands. There is usually a way of programing keys yourself in the car but far easier to have them do it. If you didn't give them another key to copy the code off they could never have set it up in the first place. Ideally they should have asked you for it but why bag them so heavily for a simple oversight.

Hi Craig
I guess I was bleep at his attitude like he couldnt care less and wouldnt you think they would cut the key the right way? And he didnt even inform me of needing to take the vehicle in there to get reprogrammed, customer service should be better than that imho.
We got them programmed to the immobilizer today and they wanted another 10 bucks to "logon" to their nissan computer, luckily my wife had that bleep wife look and the receptionist said not to worry about it )

There is a technique for programming the key. I read it in a gregorys manual a while back and is something you can do yourself. I cannot remember exact details bu tmaybe who has one at hand may be able to help
