Digital mapping

I have the GPS and have Ozi Explorer but don't yet have any digital maps. Which digital maps do people recommend?
I was thinking of purchasing the Australia 4WD Raster Map Collection as I am assuming this would cover all my needs when I travel.

The Naqtmap rastor series can be imported into Ozi easily and will give you some of the info you need.
But it really depends on what sort of travelling you do. I use the Great desert Traks maps from Hema, as they have additional info such as coordinates of points of interest, fuel etc .

Thanks Footloose,

So you are saying the Natmap series doesn't have those extra details?

AFAIk no the Natmap series doesn't. If I want to plan a trip I use GDT. If I want to see detail, I use Natmap. GDT tells me where to get fuel, where I can camp etc Natmap doesn't.

Natmap is just a map albeit a good one , GDT are planning tools

I believe that what Earvin is referring to is the Hema 4WD map collection that includes the NatMap Raster series as well as most of their other digital maps including the GDT's.

You can see a description on Hema's website ......

I have GDT and the natmap series, I only find them ok, they are all 1:250,000, therefore detail isn't that great, particularly with the natmap series.
However there are a few that are good, for the Vic high country the rooftop series are very good, I also have 1:25,000 for south east SA and also the Otways, both cover a large area.

Where do I get more of this type?

I also have a series of detailed 1:25,000 maps of Vic, but there are 1300 of them, my PDA doesn't like that many and I found Oziexplorer would crash......

Not too useful when that happens....

tNo one set of maps is all things for all places but i reckon this would be a great place to start
All the Hema Maps Pluss the 250k geoscience maps - cant go wrong
if you find you want detailed maps later of specific areas you can add to your collection

Thanks all,

I think I will go with the 4wd Raster collection and get other maps for more detail where needed.

Cheers
