We enjoy the
bright light that our pop top van offers but if it is cold or raining then you need to close the top windows.
I decided to buy some 1mm clear polycarbonate from Bunnings to make some weather shields.
They work great and also help with the air conditioning in summer.
These are cut just slightly bigger than the zipper so they can be easily removed and are held in place by the zipper when in position.
We wrap them in a towel to stop scratching when traveling.
Regards
Derek.

I made 4 up.
My van has 6 openings and I thought that 4 would be enough. Also I managed to cut the 4 out of 2m of material with almost no waste.

Derek.

Great idea Derek.
Did you use the flyscreen as a template to create the exact shape and what did you cut the material with?
Cheers, Patrick

The 1mm polycarbonate cuts with a normal large scissors. It is supplied with clear protective film on both sides. Simply hold a piece over the opening from inside and because you can see the zipper mark it with a marker 10mm bigger than the zipper and then cut to shape.
Whole job took about 10 mins. A lot quicker than the queue at Bunnings.

Derek.

G'day Derek
Looks like a damn fine idea but I must be thick because I can't see how they stay in place :-) Could you elaborate? Do you slip them in between the material bit of the zipper and the van canvas? Why don't they just flop down - I wouldn't have thought 1mm to be thick enough for the required rigidity?
Thanks from the Moose.

Yes, they fit between the flyscreen and the zipper. You cut them only slightly bigger then the opening.
1mm polycarbonate is very rigid. (Similar to a credit card)

Thanks Derek - the polycarbonate bit didn't register - I was thinking of that thick plastic sheeting. Now I know what you mean.
