I have an RA Rodeo with the usual leaky gearbox, just got back from a week on Fraser Island and I thought I might change the gearbox and diff oil. What would be a good oil for the gearbox, any suggestions?

G'day.
My brother-inlaw just did major service on his manual RA, used specced oils, and is annoyed with the gear change now. He mentioned something about changing to auto-tranny fluid soon I think. He used to work for holden and still knows a lot of guys there, so he would know the latest tricks.
I should be speaking to him tonight so I confirm. You might be able to ring your local holden and ask?

We have a manual twin cab 4wd diesel Rodeo at work.Under warranty it's had the gear box seal replaced. Now the gear change is a lot stiffer to operate, must be the new oil.So I know what you mean.
Now it's on test by the dealer because it's using engine oil.
Maybe a lemon (Friday car).It used a full dip stick of oil between
services.
Cheers Scoof..

I use Castrol EPX 80W/90 in gear box and transfer case in my Isuzu MU same box as your Rodeo, also had problem with leaks in gear box, was advised to try engine stop leak, first one did not work then found that STP engine stop leak said theirs rejuvenated gaskets as
well. It worked, but takes time to do it so give it a few weeks and the leak was fixed, Was quoted $1100 to have it fixed am very happy now.
Cheers Bruce.

In my Jack (cousin to your chariot) I use Castrol oils in the diffs, specced as per the handbook. No issues at all.
Re the gearbox and transfer case - no issues at all to date - very smooth - I use an expensive Castrol fully synthetic ($12 / L I think - 20 L drum) - same spec as the handbook but can run a lot longer (is made for the trucking industry).
