I was wondering how people insure items like a Waeco/Engel. Items that you carry on the roof or the rear of your vehicle.
They are not covered by my car insurance, house and contents insurance or caravan insurance.
Any information is greatly received.
Thanks

I know you can obtain insurance through TCIS for
camping equipment only, alternativelively you can pay additional $$ on your contents insurance to cover individual or groups of items anywhere in OZ, however this can be expensive and depending on your insurer the amount that can be claimed per item may be limited.
Good Luck.

I'm with Suncorp, and actually they are Pi$$ing me off at the moment because they refuse to do a simple thing lake an address change over the email because it as they say could be a security threat, so the reply came back with my original email containing the policy number and old and new address attached , I only have a Mobile phone and it would cost heaps by the time one presses 1 for this, press 2 for that , press 3 for a consultat....oh were sorry , all our consultants are busy right now and you know how it goes on and on,feel like letting it go

Our caravan insurance covers an amount for contents carried in the van. We are insured with AAMI.

My Contents insurance covers items up to $1000 out of the
home. You can pay extra to cover more expensive items.

So does
my home and contents. I rang AAMI this morning and it does not cover the waeco or the annex that I might carry in the back of the car or on the roof of the car. Same as RACV for the car it does not cover me for the anything extra that is not a permanent fixture on the car.
It cover things like cameras, ipods, sporting equipment.

sorry should have added that I also asked if the waeco and annex could be added to the policy and they said NO. They didn't know where I could get cover from so they referred me to the Insurance Omanssons (sorry incorrect spelling).
They didn't have an answer for me either. That why I started this thread.

GeorgieGirl, I'm also with AAMI (house, contents & car).
In June, I asked them about insuring my camping equipment just before our trip. They said that our contents insurance covered $1,000 outside the house, but that it doesn't cover camping equipment that is "in use".
Their example was that if the tent is packed up on the roof rack and the car crashed, it would be covered. But if the tent was up and was burnt down in a bushfire it wouldn't be covered.
Likewise the fridge, being always "in use", was not covered at any time.
I took my chances. There are others who will insure for camping gear (TCIS I think is the group that my brother-in-law uses).

GG, we are with RACQ. Have our fridge and all vehicle mods (radio, bull bar, drawer unit, canopy, dual battery system etc) listed on our policy. Most are covered at no extra cost. Think we had to pay about $20 per year extra to cover the fridge (which cost us about $2,000). Other vehicle contents (like camping gear etc) are not covered on vehicle policy. We have a bit of coverage via our house contents cover, but not much.

Hi GeorgieGirl
Our household policy has extended cover to anywhere in Australia on a percentage of value of contents insured. Our broker has assured us this would be adequate cover for our contents of caravan and camper.
