Hi guys - looking to upgrading from a tent to a pop top camper trailer - in summer we all like to go
camping on
stockton beach ( 2 adults 4 kids ) so maybe looking at the Jayco dove pop top - sleeps up to 7 ?
NOW - how do these go on the sands of
stockton ? would i need to upgrade tyres to larger , does anyone else drag one of these onto
stockton? Tow vehicle is a Nissan Patrol 4.2 turbo diesel or is the combination just to dry and we should expect to get bogged easily ( usually drop my tires to about 15 PSI )
all other aspects should be fine --
camping in the bush ect - so would like to hear from people that have had first hand experience if possible.
Boc
P.s given the hilly entrance and super soft sand at souther end , we will proberbly enter
stockton beach at Anna Bay end .

Hi Boc
We owned a Jayco Finch Out Back, which we regulary towed in sand at Fraser
Island and Teewah beach, it had off road
wheels, and off road
suspension,
and it cleared all the wheel ruts ect, we towed it with a Toyota 2.8 litre Hylux,
only got stuck once, because we followed some body elses tracks,
I havent been on
Stockton Beach, but I still think you must have plenty of
clearance under your trailer.
Cheers
Daza

Hi Boc
Are you sure that
camping on
Stockton Beach is allowed. We had to stay in a caravan
park, last year, because it was forbidden to
camp on
the beach.

HI there - i have ben
camping up there for a few years now , and often see a lot of other people
camping there also. So never been told you cant? And when you used to go get a day pass to drive on
the beach you had the option for both days ? so thats a pretty good indication you would be staying there?
But at the same time i have never seen the
ranger up there so maybe you cant ? , but we do have a spot thats very
well hidden down the back :)
Ok thanks everyone for your comments - if i do buy i will make sure that if required , the suspention gets an upgrade !

Boc,
Cant comment on
Stockton driectly however I run a Jayco eagle offroad and have no problems offroad. The jayco is quick to set up and we carry plenty, with a family of five it has been a godsend for us. I have trashed the steps a couple of times that had to be fixed with a hammer then finally replaced with a single step as the step is not flush with bottom of camper, this was the only gripe I had. The single step now gives a better approach angle on the rough stuff.

Hi I have travelled to Fraser Is in a on road camper trailer and have to say it was a real pain in the deep soft sand. The sand banks up at the front of the trailer because there is not enough height and therefore gets bogged. I believe that if you plan on doing some beach/soft sand adventures you should stick to the offroad 'outback' model.
