Hi,
Can someone please let me know how much time it takes to drive from Harn Crossing in Lakefield National
Park QLD to
The Tip of the Cape?
I am heading up there from
Brisbane in 2 weeks.
Thanks.
Dave.

About 12 hours if you must do it in one go.
All the best

Thanks Eric,
We were going to try to do it in 1 day, stay the night and then back the next day. Do you think this is possible (Mid August).
Thanks

Absolutely - they reckon a WRX is pretty quick..
And then you won't have room for
camping gear - but that's ok, you won't need it ;-)
Sorry - couldn't help myself.. ;-P

Dave If you really must do it that way.
You would be traveling along the main development road both ways.
To
camp you would have to
camp at seisa or
punsand bay and they a couple of hours back from the very tip.
By the time you would have done all of this you would have wished you had spent more time up the top.
All the best
Eric

With a lot of luck you won't be one of those who crash head on to an innocent person who is actually enjoying their (last) trip.
If you must do it in a day, I suggest you do it somewhere else.

Thanks Eric for your help. There are 3 drivers in each of our cars, if we leave at 4am, we should arrive at 4pm, this should give us enough time. I think this can be done. Next trip I will plan to spend longer there.
Ivan & Gerhardp1, thanks for your coments but I didn't ask for any smartass remarks.

Yeah true but a STUPID question deserves a STUPID answer.
Its quite obvious you have no idea what you are getting yourself into.
Wake up.

Well dave-02, you actually deserve the replies because you are proposing a dumbass trip.
You've perhaps watched too many movies like Cannonball run.
Having been to the Cape, and having had too many near misses from idiots coming the other way too fast, I felt compelled to warn you that your plan could kill someone, perhaps me, or Ivan with his wife and kids.
For what? So you can say you've been to
the tip faster than anyone before, and to brag that all you saw was a Jackaroo or Cruiser 50 yards into the scrub after getting out of your way?

Now if I know what I was getting myself into, I would not have asked the question would I. ??
Isn't that what this
forum is all about, to get advise from others who have done it and learn from them??
It would be nice to have an adult conversation without the smartass remarks.

Dave what they are trying to say is there have been many many accidents in the cape from people trying to do to much.
A certain 4x4 monthly type mag done and story a few years ago titled the cape in 10 days or similar to that.
That year was one of the worst on record for accidents.
I would not advice on doing the trip in 2 days but its your call.
But please be careful.
All the best
Eric

Hi Eric,
Thanks for your advice. We have 2 weeks in total from when we leave and arrive home, Most of the time will be in and around Lakefield National
Park, but after talking to you, I think we might have to spend a few more days driving from Lakefield to
the tip anf back.
Thanks

Dave: don't do it mate. All you're gonna get out of it is the chance to say "I've been to the tip" and frankly if that's all you want to do you really need to have a look at yourself. Sorry if that sounds judgemental but you are not only endangering yourself in a pointless (because you're gonna see bugger all) race against the clock but you're endangering every other track user you come across. Enjoy the time seeing the
places that are within reach and save
the tip for another time. It won't run away. There are far too many people around with deadlines that are gonna end up dead. I sympathise with your lack of time because I'm in the same boat but ouldn't dream of doing that. Defeats the object.

Dave,
I've only done the Cape once - (but I'll be back ;-) - To my mind, the only route there is via the OTL. This will take you two days in itself.
When doing
the tip itself, the
Somerset drive 'around'
the tip is also first class and gives you the history of the place.
I think to do the trip in two days is a waste of time, because you would just get to
the tip itself and turn around, seeing neither of those above (and missing much more)
You just couldn't drive past
Fruit Bat Falls,
Twin Falls etc
You have two weeks - not sure how much of that is travelling to/from Lakefield - but if you could leave five days for
the tip, you'd at least see the 'essentials'.
Our trip report is at Site Link which has pretty reasonable descriptions and pics of the above - including our 'Recommendations' for future trips..

My original question was
"Can someone please let me know how much time it takes to drive from Harn Crossing in Lakefield National
Park QLD to
The Tip of the Cape?"
The question has been answered.
Ivan - Great website, thanks for the link. It looks like you had lots of fun. I can't wait.
Thanks.
