Morning all,

Just curious if anyone has been able to fit 33"s on an '02 dual cab SR5 Hilux with a 1.5" suspension lift?

Cheers,
Heffers

Hi Heffers

I've got 31's on my 2000 extra cab and had to take the front mudflaps off due to scraping when turning.

Given that 33's are an extra 1 inch in ride height over 31's and you've got a 1.5 inch lift I'd say they'd fit, although the SR5's wheel arches could be a problem

I had thought about getting bigger tyres but going above 31's in tyre size is much more expensive and increases your centre of gravity - plus I didn't want to change the hiluxes beautiful ride.

Cheers, Will.

Heffers the 1.5" lift does nothing to improve tyre clearance under the guards as that is determined by the bump stops. A 33" tyre may just fit under the guards if it was a skinny but anything over 10.5" in width will touch with 3/4 lock on full down travel. To get 33" tyres in, most fit a body lift kit although on my earlier model Hilux I had the inner gaurd panel beated to make room. Going up 3 tyre sizes to a 33 starts to cause other issues like the gearing is thrown out causing poor fuel consumption, reduced brake & handling performance etc.
Cheers Craig..............

31" is as large as you can go without modifying your guards. I have a lift at the back and wound up the front (changed live hubs to locking/unlocking hubs so CV's not running at highway speeds with angle) and my 31" muddies scraped the front mudflap in certain conditions. Trimmed off the offending bit and now OK.

Hi Twinkles

I was just wondering how the ride changed when you increased the ride height?

I thought about doing the same thing as you when I got my Hilux a few years back, but didn't want it to have a buckboard ride on the rear end like my previous 1 tonner.

Cheers, Will.

Hi Will,
I had a 99 turbo hilux before my current 04 one. My daughter has it now. I had a lift and new springs, tortion bars and shocks from RidePro put on the 99 Hilux. Lift about 3" on back and as much as sensible wound up on front (about 14.5" from edge of rim). The car had a definate slope. My daughter tows a float so it suits her. I found it too hard and poor articulation off road. On my current Hilux I went for TJM. I asked for "comfort" ride. I didn't change the tortion bars as I have an alloy bull bar. The lift wasn't enough so I put 2" extended shackles which gave about 1" lift. Wound up front to match. When towing camper sits almost even. The ride is much more comfortable than original set up and heaps better than RidePro set up. Articulation is better because of softer springs, but shackles provide lift and don't run CVs while on highway by fitting locking hubs. Still have change on fly when hubs engaged. The car is not as firm travelling on bitumen when cornering. The old Hilux with the firmer suspension is great on road for cornering. I much prefer my new set up.
