I would just have it loose on the bottom of freezer section , with lead resting on inside of basket.

I use the fridge side in my Waeco for temperature checking, and don't bother about the freezer side, as the fridge temperature is dependant on the freezer side anyway.

How ya goin,
What I do in my 80l in have the probe hanging in the air ,tied to the top of the basket(fridge side)by its wire.
The reason I did it this way is because I wanted to know the air temp so as to get an accurate idea of what was going on with my bourbon, and yes, it is THAT important.
IMHO taping to the lid should be OK and if the gauge is showing a low temp than you can rest assured that the goods are at that temp or lower.

When we 1st got our Waeco 80 we were a bit anal in temp measuring and power consumption , 3yrs later now know that the variables are just too many to worry about and know that she uses an average of 63amps per 24hrs and with the temp probe attached to the divider on the fridge side 1/2 way down ,6 lights out of a possible 7 = minus 15c in freezer and 2 / 4 c in fridge and 4 / 7 in dairy , dont bother changing settings summer or winter , sooner or later thats what she runs at , go to full bore 7 lights and freezer drops to -18c and lo and behold fridge only drops to the same as if on 6 lights , must be some thing to do with the "drinks" rotation LOL.

>know that she uses an average of 63amps per 24hrs

Really!?

2.625 amps per hour continuous over a long period? Having little experience of compressor fridges I am very surprised to hear that - are you sure it's correct Axel?

Yes Mike , that is the average power usage , slight variables naturally but over all our usage time which is now 3yrs that is the average per 24hrs at our preferred temp settings , measured through Steca solar regulator , our "baby" Engle 15lt on the other hand averages 45 amps drawn in any given 24hr period on setting 1.5 on the dial which is a temp of 2/4 deg ,Engle used only for drinks so opened and closed more often than the Waeco.. It always amazes me how some people claim extremely low power usage "figures" such as "my 40lt blah blah blah runs for 5days off me n70 blah blah blah "
