Hi
Looking at getting a navigation system and UHF fitted to Pradoand looking for feedback. Nuvi 300 and 660 looking like interesting units for general purpose nigation on roads. Interested on what price people have got either of these recently and feedback on thier functionality, how many Outback raods are shown and how
well they work in country areas.
Re UHF, the GME TX 3440 with all the LCD functions in the Mike look good as it meand the unit can be fitted away and you don't need a dash unit. How have people found these and what is a good price fitted.
Many thanks

I've just bought a Nuvi 660 off ebay for $860- including postage. I hope to receive it this coming week, auction only finished on Thursday.
I believe it will only have city navigation included, but I have downloaded the following:
Site Link
which I will be adding to a 2GB SD card (also coming from an ebay supplier) and then I hope I will have everything I need for remote travel.
However, with my vast knowledge (NOT) of all things electronic and technical, I'm sure there'll be something else that I need to get (mapsource for example?).
Can't assist with the GME 3440.
Mine is a 3200 and I'm very pleased with it's performance so far. I have previously owned Uniden units and the GMEs seem to be of a better all-round quality.

Roachie,
Thanks. I have a Nuvi 660 and love it. The girl in the box is so patient. Ignore her, abuse her or go the other way and all she says is... 'recalculating'. Am downloading the maps from your link. If they work it will be great.

Rec'd Nuvi 660 in mail today and used it to navigate myself to an address in
Wallaroo. I was surprised that it had my small town on it......thought it would only be the capital cities!!
Apart from trying to send down a one-way street (the wrong way), it was really user-friendly. Now, anybody who knows me, will realise what a BOLD statement I've just made!!!
I'm now waiting for the SD card to arrive from Honkers and hopefully then I will be able to get Muddy to assist me to load Shonkeymaps etc and be able to find my way to and from remote destinations without quite so much drama!
Cheers blokes

Hi
I have had the NUVi 660 for a coulpe of months now and am very happy with the product around town and as a hands free unit for blue tooth phone. The screen is very easy to read even when wearing polarised sunglasses and has an automatic dimmer for night. The cheapest I have seen retail was ay a Good Guys store in
Brisbane for $895 but less for cash. The maps are road orientated and was told by GME staff at the show when I purchased
mine that no national parks are covered.
Sure enough it can find Mt. Dare but there are no roads there. Roachie's gpsoz idea was mentioned at the time.
Hope this helps.

I loaded Shonky maps on my Nuvii310 a while back with no problems, so I would imagine that on a 660 would be no worries either, I didn't even put them on a SD card, loaded straight to internal memory

Loaded ShonkyMaps successfully on Nuvi 660 last night
Bit tricky but easy when you know how.
Use the IMG2GPS product if you don't have Mapsource. Make sure if you load the GMAPSUPP.IMG file to an SD card that you place it in a folder called "Garmin" or the Nuvi won't see it.

The GME3440 is a valid choice considering there is not too many spots for remote heads and none for full din size radios but I was told to be wary of the all-in-one mike because it is the main thing that gets replaced with radios. Especially if you use your radio while standing outside while parked or
camping, as the cord is normally stretched, and if accidently falls out of your hand can work like a bungey cord.
I would recommend the 3420 or the now out dated 3400. Mount the remote head at the front of the console under the radio and A/C controls.
As for the NAV wouldnt have a clue, I just use maps and a Garmin 72.

FYI - the mic for the 3440 will be the ONLY mic GME will provide parts for (ie cable set)
Also the mic will have a FULL RRP of only $99 inc gst when it is released as a "spare part" next month
So GME have at least been thinking in terms of pricing as the reliase mics are "consumable"!!
