some time ago I had reconstruction surgery on my right femur - plates running from hip to knee along outside of bone, grafts taken from back and front of pelvic/hip bones, fibula from bottom half of leg removed for extra grafts, muscles re-attached onto what original bones were left. resulting in a leg that works albeit quite differently to how the good lord made me originally. now we want to 4wd again! is there anyone out there who could suggest support arrangements in the passenger seat to make our trips as painfree as possible. looking at replacing original hilux seats with paratus 'paratour' for me, but just want to cover as many options as we can before we fork out the dollars.

I am goning through the same thing, I had a spinal fusion 15 weeks ago. I am leaning towards the suspension seat from Stratos Seating.

Probably the XT LTSS

www.stratos.com.au/products/4x4/

From what I have gathered so far is that they are about $1800 without the mounting base.

Cheers Kev

Ouch!! Sounds painful & wish I could help. All's I can do is admire you both for not letting your misfortune get in the way of what you enjoy doing & wish you a speedy recovery. Best wishes.

Hello there alnjan, I have no doubt that this bloke Kev is always smiling, I get the impression he has a bit of "grit" about him but methinks it probabley is a wicked smile!! I beleive you, smiles do a lot of things, they open doors, make new friendships & are a great help in tough times. So keep the smile on your dial & you'll be OK!!

Barry,

I'm always smiling as it takes less muscles to do it than frowning :))

Plus,

I always remind myself that you are only as good as your last series

thanks barry for the words of encouragement. i don't look at myself as being 'brave' , so it was a bit of a shock to have someone see it that way. i just want to get on with living every day as best i can and do the things we enjoy doing!

Hi Aljan ,sounds like we are both in a similarboat .I was a passanger in ahead on at 100k's on the Bruce highway near Gympie 2 years ago. My right hip was bleep tered and fractures in my lower leg as well, my hip has been repaired with a 12 inch plate and internal an metal rod/fixture up through the bone to hold it all together and my lower back was also slightly injured .These injuries has always made driving pretty uncomfortable especially long trips .How ever I have found it to be slowly improving a little with time and most of the time I just put up with it. I find that different shaped /styles of car sets are worse than others and put pressure on my damaged leg, reclining my seat more than I would have once appears to help as well as sliding the seat back a bit more than usual.I have recently bought a new Pajero and the seating in it is very good , this seems to be also helping a little ...Scott

Thanks Scott, nice to know someone else has an idea of what I deal with on a daily basis, weather changes, temperature changes effecting the plates, pressure from seating and clothing, scar-sensitivity, muscle and nerve damage. Yep! Been there and been doing it for the past 10 years - mine caused by a malignant bone tumour and having 11" of my femur removed and chucked away, I have donor bone instead of a rod. You're right though, it does improve slowly over time, and I thank God for that every day and try ti appreciate every single day that I get extra in my life. Keep living each day, Scott, each one we get now is a bonus - make the most of it. Jan

Hi Alnjan

Friends have mine have found that fitting the stratus seat has made a significant difference to being able to continue.

But also little things like keeping the speed down and tyre pressures as low as is safe has also helped.

thanks robin, just waiting for our local dealer to get some seats in next month so we can check them out - they're certainly looking as if they'll be the way to go. will pass on the tyre pressure change to the driver, he already takes things as easy as he can. jan
