In 1978 I went up to the Kimberly with my dad and in 1986 I went up again with my then girlfriend and now wife. On both occasions we camped at a place called the Fitzroy barrage (by the locals) not far from
Camballin.
It was basically a small weir on the
Fitzroy River with a PWD workshop built on stilts (up out of the way when the river flooded) over a concrete floor. Around it was a small grassed
clearing.
It was a great place to
camp as you had a concrete floor and shelter and from memory you could climb up a ladder and actually get into part of the raised workshop.
Does anyone know if it still exists and are you still able to access the area? I’m hoping to get back up there next year and it would be great to
camp there again with my family.

I am pretty sure you can still get out there, but I would check before you go. I haven't been out there for years but from what I hear it is still there.
Cheers

Gidday rainman
I know the barrage dam very
well...been there several times..was camped there only 4 weeks ago
If you want to send me an email ady or phone number I will happily give the necessary details.....little wary of wide broadcasting them simply because the station management is getting peeved with too many cowboys doing the wrong thing......but I can give the contact name if necessary and there shouldnt be a problem done correctly
