can someone tell me if a windscreen wiper motor will reverse if the wires are changed around? may be off a HQ or similar.

Most likely. Try it and see.
Are you converting to left hand drive? :)

PS. You may find it has more than two wires.

no not converting, i have been using my cordless drill to wind the jacks up and down on the van, so had this idea after seeing the motor on the new roller door. the motor on the door looks like a wiper motor. if a wiper motor is reversible i could use it on the jacks.

If it is a permanent magnet motor it will. If it is like some older ones that have field windings then it won't.

Agreed. Try it, nothing to lose. If it doesn't reverse, then it's got field windings.
With a field winding motor, if you can get access to the guts, reverse the field windings without reversing the armature windings and you can then reverse the direction.
Most modern wiper motors have permanent magnets.
Gerry.

Hi Shane
You might get some good ideas from www.autolegs.com.au
I have one of these systems and it's great!
Motors are about the same size as wiper motors!
Cheers Roy

Another cheap source of geared motors is 12 volt cordless drills.
