Has anybody here been through this exercise and how durable were the results? Also, any recommendations on a good shop in Perth, preferable northern suburbs, to do that work?
My poor old troopie is suffering rust from that crack (and other places) So I'm trying to find out if a repair is worthwhile. The whole body needs repainting as well, many stone chips, scratches and a few dings need attention.

If it's the windscreen pillar Toyota brought out a repair kit, this can be welded to the out side of the pillar, I had one done years ago I waited to change a windscreen then just had the crack itself welded.

I also had a 1999 model that had the door pillar crack about 150 mm above the door lock, this apparently happens because they the windscreen pillar or if there was a full length roof rack.

Cheers Steve.

Depends on where the crack is, as has been said Toyota did have a reinforcing kit that was welded on the outside of the pillars up near the top of the windscreen, looks terrible when done ;-))
The biggest problem is at the bottom under the panel in front of the windscreen.
Remove the wipers and the screws along the front edge of the panel under the bonnet. The panel pulls forward towards the engine, there are clips at the rear edge under the screen.
I had two troopies crack from the rear of the recess where the bonnet hinges go in across and then down the side between the inner guard and the firewall. Basically the whole bottom of the A pillar separates from the body!!
To fix it properly the front guards inner and outer have to be removed to weld it up but I found that the best way was to weld up what could be seen at the top and then silastic the crack using a stick to reach the sides which stopped the leaks and the squeaks and then sold the truck!
