When does the timing belt for a 1HZ motor need to be done is it 100 000km or 150 000km

Kev, I don't know when or why it changed but the 75 series (atleast up to 97) are 100k but the 100 series (01) I have now is 150k. The belt would be exactly the same.

Probably an initial case of Toyota being over cautious and later revising it to 150k. I know when I changed mine on the 75 it still looked pretty much like new with no cracking or signs of deterioration. They don't cost much or take too long to change so no harm in doing it at 100k.

Hughesy,

It's an 05 100 series Standard Dual Cab, I think it will be safer to replace it and keep it as a spare.

Hey Kev

A 05 100 series is 150000 no problems, it is no use changing it at 100000 and keeping it as a spare, the reason being is if the new one lets go the whole engine will let go.

When I do mine I do the cam shaft seal, belt, tensioner spring, water pump.

A few dollars more but IMOA worth it.

Cheers Steve.

on my 95 model a light comes on in the dash..........every 100.000. When I replaced mine the fuel consumption improved and it idled better.
I compared the belts and the new one was about 5 mm shorter.

As others have mentioned on 75 and 80 series cruisers its 100,000kms which changed to 150,000km's when the 100 series came out. It's a cheap belt around $50 for a genuine one and takes about half an hour to fit, so I'd do it at 100,000km's regardless.

Glad to help anytime on anything. (LOL)

Its 100,000 as above

The T-Belt light on the dash should come to remind you.

I had mine changed at 96,000kms when a few other things had to be done (fixing my 'smashing' good time).

They obviously tripped the light switch as it didn't come on at 100,000kms.

Then again if yours doesn't come on at 100,000kms it might be one of those set for 150,000kms

As someone else said they are a very cheap item to replace, but a very expensive one if they break.
