Caravan Interstate purchase

What regulations , if any, may prevent me from purchasing and registering a new caravan in other than my home State whilst part way through my around Oz travels?

Molchucky,

I did something similar 5 yrs ago. Used a mates address in Qld. Have no idea what regs. are etc. But in my case I had to provide Qld RTA with a written advice from my mate saying he agreed to what I was doing. Mate then had to provide proof that the address was his eg rates notice. Had no probs from there on, but then again never got pulled over or the like.
Hope that is of some help.

We weren't travelling around at the time, but because Halls in Mildura seem to be the cheapest in Mildura we purchased there. They organised a travel permit, I believe it was for 1 week and we then just went in and registered it in S.A. within that period. I am guessing if you are travelling as long as you have an address for the sate you want to register under and can have someone go in for you, if its going to be an extended time before you get home there will be no probs..

Hi Molchucky,

I am non-resident in Australia and own a vehicle in Australia. My vehicle is registered in WA and was registered there when I bought it (it's been in Vic for about a year, soon to move to QL on it's travels). The WA people did tell me that if I did not recieve any mail sent to me at my WA address then that was my fault and I would be lible for any penalties etc. I did the change of ownership by mail and pay all bills with Visa and have had no problems.

OT sorry ,

Mr Kia ,

I was looking at your photo gallery . Did you drive through that hole in the hill where the creek was running through ? It looks like a beautiful spot .

Was it in Kiwi ? Any details ?

Thanks ,

Willie .

Hi Willie,
The tunnels were originally made by gold miners to divert water from a stream so that the miners could work through a dry stream bed. It must have been worth while as they continued to dig the tunnels lower and lower to divert at a lower level as they mined deeper into the old stream bed. There are three tunnels but only two can be driven. The next tunnel that can be driven is a lot longer. The tunnels are near Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island, a really nice family 4wd trip of about three hours. Send me a members mail with your email address and I will send you more photos.

Hi again Molchucky, I have just noticed that some of my original reply to your question has somehow not got through so here is the important 'missing' bit again.

The WA people told me (email) that I could use a friends address or a backpackers as the WA 'garaged' location of my vehicle.
