I have both Hema and Westprint maps of the area around Rawlinna
The Hema Map shows fuel available at Balgair about 37k's East of Rawlina whereas the Westprint shows it available at Kanandah 62k's West of Rawlinna but neither show it available at both. As we plan to turn North up the Connie Sue, I'd like to get fuel at Balgair but I just want to make sure it's available there.
Has anyone have any recent info there please.
Thanks
Des

Des,

Sorry - I don't have an answer to your question. But my research for my trip indicates that I need to carry enough fuel to get from Kalgoorlie to Warburton - there's nothing to rely on in between. Are you heading to Rawlinna from Kalgoorlie or the Eyre Highway somewhere? And are you going north to Warburton?

I'll be on the Connie Sue between Rawlinna and Neale Junction probably on Aug 21 / 22 ish?

Maybe see you out there.

Thanks Jim,We're only doing a short distance of the transcontinental coming from the Eyre Highway and we won't be out there until September.

AFAIK fuel is only available at Rawilinna when the muster is on and the trans lineis only PAR West of Rawlinna and for a short distance around Googs track

G'day Des,
When SWMBO & I travelled along the Trans line (Glendambo to Kal) early Oct. last year, we saw nothing at all to indicate that fuel is/was available for purchase at either of the locations you mention.. Not that we were looking for it there, as we had topped up at Forrest...
The most recent Hema maps (2007 print) that I have, do not show the bowser symbol at either location..
Presumably, being pastoral stations (assuming they're still in business), they would have fuel on hand.. Whether they are selling it to the travelling public is another matter... No doubt a 'phone call to either or both (White pages online??) would confirm one way or the other...

I can confirm that diesel (didn't ask about ULP) is available at Forrest, and that the management of the aircraft re-fuelling facility there welcome travellers with open arms...
Hope this is of some assistance:-))

Regards, Ed. C

I would think the best bet is to re-fuel at Forrest, all details on this site www.forrestairport.com.au and try phoning Kanandah Station``Kanandah'' Nullarbor 6431

Fax (08) 9022 6447
Staff Quarters(08) 9022 6456

We have been out as far as Haig then south, I wouldn't go telling to may people of your planed route, No one seen to do anything wrong on this site (except maybe Bill) LOL...

When we traveled out I can't remember see a sign to Balgair HS

Maybe try West print John may have some phone numbers he also shows fuel at Kybo

Cheers Richard

Hi Des
I have been out to Balgair about 2 years ago. A nice bloke in his 80's (Dave) runs it with some casual help. His fuel supplies are bought in Kal and driven back to the station in a 44 on a trailer. He does this every couple of weeks despite fuel being brought in to run the mine at Rawlina. I was lucky enough to get 20 ltrs to give me a buffer for the trip down to Cocklebiddy. Fuel at Rawlina could not be bought. They are just not interested....point blank. I'd agree with others and top up at Forest and take a couple of containers. If you go up the CS make sure you have look at Neale breakaways...simply outstanding and worth the drive in (about 20mins from memory) I have a track log from Rawlinna to the breakaways and up to Neale Junction if you want..MM details and I will send. Cheers

Thanks Leigh,we called into the Breakaways when we were there a couple of years ago and spent an interesting couple of days there. We thought that they were one of WA's best kept secrets.

I will be topping up at Forrest but Laverton is at the limit of my safe fuel range so I'll carry another drum just to be safe.

Cheers
