Morning all,
Just wondering if anyone knows where, if any the front diff breather on an 05 Triton would be located as after many times crawling on my back under said beast have failed to find anything that resembles a breather tuber in the front end. Back is ok found it first look.
Cheers

Brian,

You don't seem to have got any answers.

If the Triton is anything like my pajero, which I suspect it is, there is not a diff breather hose.
The diff has a breather on the top with a self closing mechanism for water.

I have had my pajero through reasonably deep water with out any problems.
Yes, I was concerned and did check diffs and gear boxes after a few dunkings on a trip. I use a tarp on the front for deep water, i.e. more than 500mm deep.

Being tucked up above the bash plate must help in reducing water ingress.

I always stop to let diffs cool down before crossing anyway. Chance to check depths and the best line. :o)

John,
Thanks for the reply, from what I have read it would seem that that is the case, even the U.K. L200 forums haven't shed much light on it apart from what you've said. Hopefully I won't need to take it any deeper than about 500mm, which is it's rated depth, like the Pajero.
Cheers,

I have an 06 dual cab and there is a breather on the top of the front diff. I extended the diff breather the other month and it is not at all easy.

this is where i got my info from

http://www.4x4wire.com/mitsubishi/tech/extended_breathers/

if you want some more detail on how i did it, i will detail it more for you, it is not fun as there is little room between the top of the diff and the metal above.

Thanks for that link, finally found some pics of where the little bugga is hiding. Looking under the front of mine I'm guessing that the only way to get to the front diff is to take the bash plate off because I can see no other way to access any part of it?

Gday Brian, I had exactly the same question (but for an '04). Purchased a diff-breather extension kit and the rear was a breeze. As for the front-diff breather however, although I found it easily enough, how to put the bloody thing on was another thing. Neither of the 'Big Two' of 4wd accesories had any idea how to fit the front breather and even had Mitsubishi mechs suggest going to specialist hose-mobs (ENZED etc.)to see if they could help me out!!! Time had run-out for me as we pushed off for the Kimberley but I met a bloke in Broome who assured me that the poly-cap over the front diff worked on the diving-bell principle...well, through some decent water (900mm+) on the Gibb the Triton handled it no probs and the diff had no issues. That said, I was pretty nervous none-the-less. I'll check that site out and see what they have to suggest. If you get anymore info please let us know.
Cheers.
