Hello We purchased a new 2006 Jayco Pop Top Destiny last year
& loved it until it took on water (on our 1st trip) through the tail
lights that weren't sealed. It took on so much water that it continued
to run out for 3 weeks after it had ceased raining. We were in north QLD
and couldn't do anything but to turn around & return home. To the
dealers credit (after MUCH discussion with him & the manufacturer) he
replaced the van with another exactly the same. Although he said he
would guarantee that there would be no mould inside I wasn't convinced
of that as obviously the walls had held a huge amount of water for some
time & I didn't want to risk ending up with a smelly, mouldy van & worse
still illness down the track. Guess what! The new van which is 6 months
old is back at the dealers with mould along the wall beside the bed, a
wet mattress & the doona on the bed could be wrung out. The carpet under
the bed & in the rear floor cupboard were under water. The water from
rain had run along the roof to the back of the van (we had it on a
slight slope) into the top rear lights that hadn't been sealed. Another
potential mouldy, smelly & dangerous situation. Has anyone else
experienced similar problems with a Jayco?. We really love this van but
aren't sure if we should risk owning one in the future

I have never have had any problems with water in my Jayco Outback Eagle and we have been in absolute downpours and even taken it across creeks with water 3/4 up the van.

Obviously crossing a creek you need to prep the van first as ity has many places water can creap in like the vents for stove and fridge, you state it took on water through the tail lights, where were you taking it and did you stop. If moving forward the water ingress i would think would be marginal.

Itamazes me where people take their rigs and van and dont do the prep work.

I watched a guy at Landcruiser Park who saw my old truck climb up a steep section so he jumped in straight behind in his brand new 100 series, he got stuck and it took us an hour and some panel damage to his truck to get it out. He did not even ask what the track was like, he looked at my old girl and thought if i could do it so could he, only problem I had both diff locks in he was still mucking about in high range till we offered to help.

You said to the dealers credit he changed out the van yet you still mention water problems- you got me confused here ?

Wayne

Can't help you with the latest models, we have a 98 Jayco Westport & have not had any troubles. My wife & I looked at new Jaycos earlier this year & were not impressed with quality of fittings & workmanship.
There are a lot of Jayco van's & in particular Destiny's out there & would therefore think that if the problem you have experienced with two vans were indicative of all others, there would be a public outcry.
At least the dealer seems to be standing by you, but at the end of the day it's not what you want or expect in a new van. Good luck

Lets be clear - did you do a water crossing as queried above, or is this simply as a result of rain ? If the latter......... hell....... that is a worry (for Jayco).

My sister owned a Jayco Eagle a few years ago and that leaked from the roof. They also got mould. Jayco fixed it but it should not have happened as it was also brand new. Friends helped another couple at Merimbula with a new Jayco that had broken the roof support the first time they used it. Jayco arranged to have it fixed but they had to get it to Eden so they lost the money on their site at Merimbula and stuffed up the first day or so of their holiday. Personally I do wonder if the quality has diminished over the years.

W&S how can you say that you really love this van???? You are much too kind and soft on the manufacturer! You have had 2 vans from them with serious defects and you still love them? Get tough with them. I know they are a mass produced, cheap product and that's why people buy them but you have every right to demand that they perform properly. Keep in mind the long term problems that may emerge from such shoddy work too. They are rapidly losing the good reputation they had many years ago.
