upright fridge

Hi there

Is anyone out there who has an upright fridge in their 4WD??
I don't like the idea of the box as it is hard to have it organized.

If so, what brand; and are they o.k. on corrugated roads?
If the put them in caravans they should be reliable I guess.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

We have an 80 litre Engel upright in the camper trailer and it is very good. It does not suffer any illeffects from corrogations etc and nothing has broken. Maybe the only drawback with it in a wagon would be the height and the fact that it may be difficult to set it up in such a way that the space behind the fridge could be accessed easily. You wouldn't need a slide, so that's an advantage.

The idea certainly has merit. Waeco makes a similar type fridge and I reckon Reefer (Liemack?) do too.

Cheers

Russell ;))

I think that Reefer/Liemack have gone out of business.

if you can manage to keep the freezer section frozen, uprights are the way to go - you only need one or no-hands to use them whereas a chest definetly requires more than a glance to open or close...

ps - dont forget to latch it up before moving off - stubbie lids are a little delicate once thrown through the cabin..

They must use a lot more power, because every time you open them, all the cold air falls out.

Yep!

Have a 50L upright waeco in Troopy.

Only trouble experienced was in 50C plus heat (lack of vetilation where installes.

That has been rectified and all is ok , nah! excellent is a better word.

It gets treated like the rest of the vehicle (hard) and doesn't miss a beat.

Runs 240/24-12V via a mobitronic rectifier, and keeps meat frozen in freezer.
