mattcar,

We have a chassis mounted camping box weighing about 450kg plus gear, total weight of the 79 series 2002 4.2L turbo diesel Landcruiser is 3000kg all up ready for a trip. Recently we did a run to Willem's Warraweena gathering and back from Newcastle 4,600km, average fuel consumtion 13.4L/100. Some highways, some back roads, some tracks.

We've got a 79 Series 'Cruiser (non-turbo) with a Heaslip. Bit heavier than some others @ ~900kg fully loaded. Worst we ever got was 15.5 L/100 When we were new at it all. We mostly get around 11-13 L/100 now, by taking it easy and enjoying the scenery.
We reckon that slide ons are the way to go.
