Hi learned friends,
Son is looking at a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I have little knowledge of these vehicles and am looking at feedback on reliability, fuel consumption and any other issues that may assist in making a decision.
I have a Patrol so am biased in one directing.
Did do a search but nothing stood out.
Thanks in advance

Redeye,
They have a car clutch in them. A mate of
mine was lamenting no adjustment and light weight construction.
Other than that they look good with the top down.
Cheers

Redeye, the pre 97 Cherokee was only available as a petrol automatic, it would also be an outstanding Cherokee to have a soft top. ;-)
I'll assume that you thought he asked about a wrangler...

Redeye,
I presume you are talking xj range here? They arent too bad for parts(mates got one). Drink lots if you have a heavy right foot(but go like s*it of a shovel). Have a look at go.jeep-xj.info/ My mate has put a bolt 4 inch lift under his and 31 inch simex and it is good offroad. And they are cheap to buy. Just make sure if he is going to be doing any
water work that he fits a
snorkel. It is funny watching someonelse hydro locking there engine(jeeps air intake is low, $6500 later as blocks in good nick are hard to come by.

They are cheap, reliable, economical (on standard tyres) and have good power and offroad ability. They really shine on
the beach due to their light weight, most people don't know but Cherokees are lighter than Wranglers due to the monocoque body.
The biggest problem is engine bay heat. The engine bay was designed for 4cyl engines in the late 80's but due to consumer demand in US they squeezed in the 6cyl and therefore the cramped engine bay and smallish radiator keep the temp under the hood quite hot. As long as the radiator is in tip top condition it'll be fine.

G'day Redeye
I have a 1996 Jeep Grande Cherokee Limited and I have located a jeep used parts specialist in Hervey Bay www.jeeeprecycling.com.au (the 3 eee's is correct) which has saved me hundreds on bits and pieces over the last couple of years. They even give warranties on electronic bits. Thought this info might be useful.
Usual disclaimers - nothing but a happy customer.
Regards, John

We had a 96 Sport. Really liked it as a town/touring vehicle.
Three specific dislikes - lost half its value in 2 years (a company car came along so we had to sell), a bit small for touring with more than 2 adults and one child (particulalry if the spare tyre is still inside rather than on a carrier) and the gutters seem to be "glued on" (ours came adrift when loaded within spec using a full length rack - which I've still got if you need it).
Around 95/96 there was a model change. The new one had an airbag and steering wheel controls for the cruise. Some of the special editions had extras like a nudge bar but to save cost they dropped the LSD.

I had a 94 (or thereabouts) model. It did Fraser, Simpson, Plenty,
Birdsville, Oodndatta, Strezlecki and never missed a beat.

We have a 97 model Turbo Diesel. We have taken it everywhere except
the beach. It has been a thoroughly reliable and dependable vehicle.
They are an extremely capapblle vehicle straight out of the box.
There was a model change in 97, look for the exposed rear door hinges as an indication of the earlier model.
cheers
