Leave the trailer behind, the CSR is approx 1700k long, much of it corrugated and sandy. The ute will do it ok by itself but you might be asking a bit much of it and the trailer if you tow.

I would STRONGLY suggest that you travel with another vehicle, as you will need help to cross the numerous sand ridges if towing a trailer.

The trailer will need to be sufficiently robust to cope with the rough "roads". The CSR has numerous remnants of trailers along its length that fell apart. Remote area communications are a must.
Eg. HF (RFDS) radio, Satphone. Also UHF for local communications on the CSR.

The question I ask you is do you know the limitations of yourself, your Trition, and your Camper ?

Have you towed your camper in sand dunes and desert tituations yet ?

There are campers out in the Simpson, all the time, and towed by all makes and models of 4B's. But they are usually always with a group of vehicles that will lend a hand, if needed.

Being 4-5 times longer than the Simpson, the CRS will pose that many times more problems.
And then there is the fuel useage as well, just remember most of the trek notes posted on this forum, are non towing vehicles.

Do your homework properly, and be prepared to leave the Camper at home, this time.

We will leave ours home when we do the CRS, as I cannot justify the extra dramas it may cause.. Although you never know !

Cheers

I ahree with all replys here saltwatertrekker.

Its just over 1800km long with 1000 sand dunes, plus the lower part of the csr you have to take a detour because the stations will not allow towing.

I wouldbe leaving both at home and take a tent - its not worth the extra drama

But dont worry the triton will be fine, they are good utes!!!

have a goodn.

Which Model Triton, is it modified, what type of camper, have you towed in sand or done any big trips before???
In general the Triton would handle the stock route reasonably well with the usual preparations. Towing a camper is extending it to it's limits & would be a very difficult trip if the conditions weren't favourable. Including a boat is overloading the rig & although it is possible is certainly not recomended. I carried an inflatable Zodiac up the CSR with a 25 hp outboard. With all the boat equipment, additional safety gear, fishing rods etc it was just too heavy particually when added to the large amount of fuel & water required. I vowed to never mix a remote trip with boating again.
If you have a well set up current model diesel Triton towing a TVan & a light weight boat I'd say give it a go, otherwise reasses whats most important to you on this trip.
