Tested out suitability of using one of those cheap $60 microwaves camping over the weekend.

They are 700watt output and require 1100 watts at 240vac.
These new units are relatively lightweight at 10kg and compact.

Tried this one (Black & Decker) off our $200 Ebay 1500 watt square wave inverter.

It ran ok , but it made a lot more noise than running off the mains.

The buzzing noise, caused by the wave shape was quite objectionable and we considered it such that the product failed as being suitable for camping.

This is the first of a large number of products we have tested which failed when run from this type of inverter.

We expect it would pass with a sine wave inverter.

The buzzing noise would most likely be caused by the input filter choke inside the oven. Bypassing that and possibly removing the capacitors would solve the problem. An inexpensive power board with a built in filter could be used if you wish to run the unit off the mains.

Hi Hl

Could be to , was tempted to pull it apart , but it wasn't mine.

Was serious deep noise to , otherwise would not have commented
, which was completely gone on mains.

If for me , I think I would check out one of the interter models from Panasonic.

Yes Robin,
looks like a good reason to use only the most efficient electrical technology equipment, as in 'pure sine wave' inverters !

Hi Robin,

Sounds like when on the inverter the magnatron was struggling to excite properly.

A higher rated inverter would prob help too.
