Any one had problems with their Dunlop "Grandtrek" tyres, they never seem to get a mention on the forum

Hi Mike
Just replaced the grandtreks on the prado. Only got 66k, perhaps the new bridgestones will last longer.

Watch the Bridgestones, I only got 45-50000 km out of mine on a Triton, which is substantially lighter...

You must push the triton as hard as I push the pajero some times.
But I still get 50 to 60k out of my tyres. In my old age, driving a bit easier, getting over 70k now.
Does the triton tricylce like the pajero does pushed hard in a bitumen corner?
The paj on 70 or 75 series rubber and hard cornering picks up the inner front tyre and you can feel it kissing the bitumen.

Put on some 85 series rubber now and it doesn't happen any more. Not as much grip.

My first Prado had grandtreks which were replaced around 80,000km. Have recently replaced it with another Prado and have done 40,000 km with grandtreks, they look about 1/3 to 1/2 worn, so I expect to get around 80 - 90,000.

Hi Mike,
Diddly traction in real offroad situations and in my experience wear out too fast on a Landcruiser.

Apart from that, exactly what Toyota want from an OEM tyre, quiet and about as soft a ride as is available.

I got 82,000km out of my Dunlop Grandtrex on my 100 series Cruiser, So I guess I can say they certainly wear well.

Mike,
Which Grandtrak are you referring to, the AT20 is the latest version that is on the Prado.
In the past I was a Dunlop "knocker" but have to admit the AT20 is a very good tyre , particularly in the wet.
As for off road, we must remember that they are an AT tyre which is a compromise for all conditions. We cannot expect a 4 star rating for every condition.
"Zodarp" As for Bridgestone, another good tyre but don't expect any better mileage.

"Thats my skid mark for the day".

Cheers,

Fazz.

Hey Mike

I put one set of flop lops on my car seven years ago, never again, since then I have worn out with out problem 12 sets of Oz made Bridestone A/T duelers 265/75/16s 693s.

I run 4 cars that do 250 km per day, on 100 ks of black track and 150 ks of corrugated dirt, run them at 40 psi.

good luck Steve.

I would only put Grand Treks on a vehicle if it was doing 90% onroad and no rock off road work

Grandtreks are not light truck construction and therefore do not hold up well when you have a heavilyu loaded 4WD or tow a caravan. Our OE fitted to our Prado lasted 35,000 km and the tread was absolutely stuffed.

Being naive I replaced them with Cooper AT (also passenger construction) they did last the warranty period due to the centre of the tread (not to understate the 7 punctures) wearing from high pressures to carry the van and load.

Now I only fit light truck construction AT. I have Goodyear Wrangler ATR LT and only run them at 35 PSI even when loaded up.

I guess any tyre will last a long time if all you do with the car is run aroubd town, ferry the kids to school and do the shopping.

Hi mike

Had GT AT20's on the prado stock down almost to the legal tread in 35k could have still run them down further but wanted to get the MTZ for a trip away.

They did get me every where Highlands, stockton, robe, Flinders ect not one flat.

Great round town and on long trips but I always erred on the side of caution when off road.
