ok so this csr trip we're doing is in 2 yrs - or a bit under really - our trusty 80 series already has 285,00km on the clock so 2 yrs will be approx 320,000km.
Everything on it apat from the motor has been replaced with better stuff ie suspension, radiator, battery x2 ,and the list could pile up if i had the time.....

So what would you do? Would you get something else - keep in mind that there ae 3 kids in car seats at the momnt so a eg hilux would be no good. Or would youreplace the petrolo motor with a diesel? If we were to get something else we would have to start all over again with its setup ie draws, batteries, suspension unless we founf one aleady to go.

It is in great condition and hasnt been flogged.

We're just in thinking mode at the moment and cannt afford to do anything right now.

Any opinion????

Better the devil you know! Have faith in ye ole trusty - if it's served you well so far, then don't go busting it or selling it.

Have you changed the water pump ?
A lot of people change hoses and belts etc but wait for the pump to start leaking.

Hi Diver1
I have a 1995 Auto 80 Series with similar mileage. I also had toyed with the idea of updating the vehicle but, when you start to add up the cost of all the extras that you have installed over the years, you realize that it simply is not financially viable. At the end of the day, the petrol motor is almost bullet proof and, if it is serviced regularly it should last as long as the average diesel motor. Also, when it is time to replace the engine they are a relatively inexpensive item compared to their diesel cousins.
Hope this helps
Brian

Diver,

In the past 12 months our 1987 petrol Troopie with 330,000km on the clock has done the Hay River trip and explored the Simpson without any incidents. If your vehicle is in good condition and does what you want it to do, it seems better (and cheaper) to stick with what you know and trust.

Cheers,

Val

Probably a good idea, LPG tank would be about as useless as t*ts on a bull on the CSR!

That would make it a very expensive trip. Why don't you leave the Gas in, fill it up at the last available outlet (?) use petrol and jerries for the majority of your trip and use the gas for the occasion when you need the extra range? That way you still have Gas when you come home.
Bit of planning could save you heaps of bucks, particularly if this is a one off trip.
