During a discussion at work, a colleague mentioned that GME had just released a new product designated as AccuSat MT410?
Anyone have knowledge of this unit (including price)? Apparently their quite a bit smaller than earlier Digital models.

Kim

Kim,
I found it at GPSOZ

You will have to cut and paste the link
Hope this is what you are after.
Cheers Kev

Thanks Kev
It must have been the 410G they were refering to. I assume the unit works now and I don't have to wait untill 2009.

Hi Kim,
You might like to use GME's web site too

I have a MT410/G (which resides in my 'emergency throw bag') and a MT400 mounted in my vehicle.
One of the main differences between this generation and the previous generation EPIRBs (besides the frequency) is that these ones are registered to an individual.
Once you purchase you go online and register each unit onto a database.
That way if the unit is activated they know exactly who they are looking for and with the 410G the GPS locator can get to within less than 45m

I take is then, that your recommending the MT410G?
One other thing came to mind. Do they come supplied with a quick release fixing cradle. There was no mention of this on the web site.

Roachie
You had better get 5 of these suckers, One for you and one each for SWMBO and 'billy lids', because if Warrawena was an example of how you keep track of them, then they are going to need such an item for when you abandon them in the years to come.

I chose the 410/G because:
1) It is small and fIts into my survival 'grab bag'
2) It has the GPS feature and as I do a lot of my 4x4 and bushwalking alone I wanted the added feature of being able to get tracked closer than 5km
As I have said previously I also have the non gps MT 400 which does come with a mounting bracket etc in the Nissan
The 410/G is considerd a 'personal' (PLB) locator
beacon and comes with a carry pouch
Big difference in price so chose which one you really need either the 410 no gps or the 410/g with gps - then ask how much you want to spend to gain the ability to 'track' you to within 45mtres veres 5 km - if you travel with others I would go with the 410 if you (like me) spend a lot of time in the bush etc alone then go with the 410/g - just be prepared to put more $$$$ on the table :-)

Kiwi
That makes a lot of sense.
Next year could turn out similar to last year. Therefore, I'm prepared to spend a little more. Cost is the last thing you think about when bushed.
Many thanks

Here is an alternative product which on reading the specs could be a tad better.
From memory I think its made in Australia as
well.
Abpprox $500.

Lucy
Thanks for that. Interesting unit. Not registered at the moment, but I'll keep an eye on the site over the next 10 months.
I'll need to purchase a unit no later than April 2008.
Hopefully we'll have aerial support for some sections of the trip next year but an EPirb will be an essential item.
Many thanks for your help.
Regards
Kim
