All, I have sourced a 1984 Landcruiser 60 series original one owner and only 180,000k's on the clock!! BUT, I have just found out that it does not take unleaded fuel it is a leaded fuel car. Additives seem to be the answer but will the car be happy, will it still be reliable I just dont know. For $3,000 should I buy it or not.

Thanks in advance,

Mick

Hi Mick, I have an 82 60 series (4 speed) and have done more than 60,000 km using additives. Still seems to be going strong using additives each fill up, no smoke or sign of valve issues.

Thanks Graeme.
This is what I need to know.
It sounds like buying the car will be OK all I need to do is buy additives.
Are they expensive?

The price of the bottle of additive doesn't seem like alot, until you calculate it into cents per litre. It is quite a bit.
We have a '79 Dyna that runs ULP plus the additive and runs fine. Sometimes it can ping a little, which would be due to the lower octane rating of ULP versus leaded, but I'm not about to run PULP in a '79 Dyna. Fuel would be worth more than the truck!

Just a point. Might be worthwhile getting LPG fitted, $2000 fed govt rebate will pay most of cost. The 2F is a monster on fuel. A mate of ours has a 1984 2F 60 series, prob bought 18 months ago on gas and paid $3500. Not bad example but prob not as honest as yours. Valvesaver kit will be needed if you fit gas.

About 4 yrs back I bought an 82 model one owner with 120000km on the clock - it was immaculate, but I soon found out why it had so little k's on it - because it was horrendous on fuel!! I spent big $$$ on the carby and getting extractors etc to try to lower the fuel usage a bit but in the end traded it in on an 80 series diesel... As above, I would either wait for a diesel - OR put a big V8 diesel into it (that is what I wish I had done with mine....)

I suppose it depends on how many k's you intend to do, and if you dont mind taking a heap of jerrys with you on long trips....
