Greetings forumites, I am preparing my GU Patrol for the big trip around oz and want to upgrade my suspension. I have decided on koni's but I am not sure what to get, the 82 series heavy tracks or the 88 series.
The 88's are bigger and look a lot stronger but of course a lot more expensive.
Is it wise to spend a bit more or would it just be overkill?
Thanks for your thoughts.

My 82's have had a good beating on many a corrugated kilometre over the last 2 years (Jackaroo) and still seem happy. Being mono tube gas, I only went Koni on the front - twin tube XGS gas on the back - more resitant to stones in my view.

Forgot to me mention - even though we travel conservatively, on the Gibb / Mitchell Falls / Tanami tracks mine were hot enough to shrivel the plastic label right up (even though mono tubes run cooler "they say") - didn't faze them but.

Hi Gompy - went through the same a few months ago with my GU.
The suppliers in Qld said -stay with the 82 series, the 88 are overkill for a Patrol. They could have sold me either. Now have an 82 series on each corner...................Keith

Hows it going Gompy,

Not 100% sure but think the numbered series shocks are old now .

Put a set of 'Heavy Track' shocks all round after the Ranchos gave up the ghost , only options were 'Heavy Track' or 'Raid'

I decided to get these just before going away ,as you do , paid approx $1200 not fitted 18 months ago. Have had no problems with them since.

Not money wasted though , a guy was telling me a couple of weeks ago was given a ruined set , got them rebuilt for a couple of hundred, even a respray and new stickers !

Hope this helps you out ,

Glenn.

Hi, I got a quote for the heavy tracks (82's) of $760, the 88's $1200 but no price for the 90 series (raid) because they are considered competition shocks only.

I've had both 82 and 88 series Koni's. The 82 where on my 97 Jackaroo and the 88 where on my previous 2000 GU Patrol. Now IMHO if you intend on doing a fair amount of outback gravel road touring then spend the little extra on the 88 series. If your only going to do the occasional trek then the 82 series will be more than fine.......For what it is worth, what value do you put on a comfortable ride in the bush? IMHO the 88series where better....

Thanks, can you remember what you paid for them? I must say I am getting more and more confused.
I just got a quote for a set of "80" series for $660. does this mean there is an 80, 82, 88 and 90 series????
