Just thinking about an old Holden i had, and trying to take off straight away on a freezing winters morning. Getting that choke in just the right spot, heaps of revs, slip the clutch, and off, well maybe!!. These days turn the key, in gear and off we go no probs. Even old tech diesels like a little warm up or that rattle can be a bit concerning...lol.

Cheers Axle.

Hi Axle yep no where your coming from. My first few cars had manual choke couple of pumps on the loud pedal, pull the choke and hit the key, in the mean time you've pulled the choke out tooo far the thing fires up and revs it nut out so you hit the choke inwards to stop the piston escaping through the rocker cover and it stalls and you start all over again thou were the days. Mind you I wish some times it still happened so the wife would let it warm up a bit instead of, whoops running late, jump in car hit the key,hit reverse before the starters stopped spinning out the drive hit drive and while taking off a 100 mile an hour while pulling the seat belt over shoulder and the hasnt even changed from first to second before having to stop at the end of the street. Then into it again. Feel sorry for the thing.Thank god she doesnt have a diesel or a turbo one at that LOL. Regards Steve

There is one thing that will slow us down, but we try to put it off as long as possible - too much 4WDing to do first!!

Cheers

Yea Axle I know what you mean. My first car was a 1972 valiant, loved that car but it took some starting on cold mornings. Pull the choke out 3/4's, pump accelerator 3 times, start engine, maybe. If no action pump accelerator again, pull choke all the way, try to start engine again. If this didn't work, forget it and use mums car to get to work. We've come along way, thank god.

Mate i had a valiant with the luxury of a automatic choke!!.

worked well for start up, but the bloody thing would never release properly, result being a 10mpg fuel consumption..lol.

At least with your "old Holden", if it broke down you could do something about it, & not just have to walk away & get it towed!

Used to live next door to a bloke who had a Triumph 2500PI. Early Bosch fuel injected model and not that scientific methinks.

What a bastard! of a thing that was in the morning.

Cranked it to death and just when you had had about enough and were about to throw the other neighbour's cat at him, it would splutter into life.

This went went on for years untill he moved out thank C#$*st!
