Paul,

As stated in a number of posts there were problems with the "Voyager" model.
A "Prodigy" is a great piece of kit and should give good service into the future.

Taking the brake sense from the brake light at the rear of the car is the go versus from the brake light switch on the pedal.
A number of vehicle manufacturers suggest this as this has something to do with the ABS setup/wiring etc.

After all you have to run a cable back to the trailer plug so whats hard about one running forward at the same time.

Regards,
Jim

Paul, dont stress I have a Prodigy in my TD 100 series and it is a great piece of gear. The chances of the Prodigy unit playing up are very slim unless it has been installed incorrectly.

We have a Prodigy on our Paj. Now 2.5 years old, over 20,000 kms towing the camper and does not put a foot wrong.
Agree with the comments above re where you get the signal from. I had it fitted by an auto elec first time (just changed it over to a new Paj myself) and he took it from the brake light wire going to the rear of the car-- not the pedal. Not that you can on a Paj anyway as it is all "integrated" or something. I had some difficulty with the swap over (all my doing) and when I checked with the auto elec he said to absolutely stay away from trying to pick up the signal from the ABS system due to the risk of damage if the Prodigy is activated manually.
On both of our cars the wire to the rear brake light runs through the foot well wall just below the dash so is easy to access.

As you might be aware, most people seem to be happy with the Prodigy !!!

As for needing to source the brake wire from the rear of the 4x4.....????..........if you look at any wiring diagram...the wire from the rear goes all the way to the front ( usually to the right kick panel somewhere ) which gets fed (usually) directly from the brake pedal switch !!!!

Now imagine if you have a piece of wire that is 3 metres long..........it doesn't matter where you tap into that wire....it's still the same piece of wire !!!

So if the ABS ( or whatever else ) is also fed off that wire (say at the brake switch end ).......it doesn't matter where abouts on that same piece of wire you tap into for a feed for a Prodigy unit !!!!!!

But if there are any doubts about ABS and brake pedal switches, tap into the actual rear stop light wire at the front kickpanel area !!
I hope that was easy to understand ??

The Prodigy is not fussy about what type of car it is fitted to.

If you are really paranoid about tapping into your wiring, you can always fit an additional microswitch to the vehicle - mostly there is plenty of room on the brake pedal arm and the fixed pivot point.

Then you have the standard switch for the brake, and a new switch for the Prodigy. A little fine adjustment will see them actuate at almost the identical time, and you can err on the side of the trailer actuating before the vehicle - this is what happens when you manually activate the controller so it's not dangerous.

I doubt that this method is necessary, but it is an option
