I have an idea!! Location rating register thingy

Quite often people pop up asking 'does anyone know a good place to stay at x?', or 'what's x like to stay at?'

At other times someone will report excellent (or crap) service.

What do you think about a section on exploroz where members can rate a place (caravan park, campsite, business)?
It might work in a similar way to the ratings people get on ebay - an average rating, but click on it and you can see what people's experience was.

Of course, David might say sod off, it's too hard (quite understandable!).

No need to establish a rating for every business across oz providing services related to our endeavours - I imagine people would only leave feedback on particularly good or bad experiences.
I guess it would though require a moderately involved ability to sort by region/town etc.

What do you think - good idea, or am I off in la la land again?

Hi,

I wouldn't be comfortable with this site rating locations that are less than ideal. I could imagine some legal backlash (even though i think we can go overboard these days).

Too many conflict of interest issues as well.......I could easily highly rate my mates business as no-one may know.

Just my opinion....i may be in the minority.

Andrew,

Correct this is why the Places system uses averages for rating. The more ratings one way or the other the higher or lower the places rank. As mentioned below places has all this already for places types are are deemed ratable.

great idea, but without the rating.i think each one of us has had something recommended at some time, only to find what someone else thinks is great is pretty average.

Hi John
"Badgers Australian caravan Park forum" does this for parks where you can input your thoughts good or bad on places. Everyone to their own, but it a good start for info when travelling, Camps 3, 4 is another good one for a lot of free camping. You can also get a lot of info on the "caravaners forum".

Badgers site is growing and now very useful. If you have been to a place that is not included feel free to contribute. The on line form is a tick the box affair and there is a guide to the number rating system that makes it easy to do your rating. Once you have contributed you get a log-on so that you can download the site so you can use it off line.

John,

The system already has such a thing it is called places and is designed to do exactly what you are suggesting. In fact you can add places such as caravan parks and rate them and tell others about then by posting links.

Not only does places have caravan parks, it has free camps, pay camps and a load of other place types (40 types in all and around 70,000 places).

Please have a look in this section and start using it. The data volumes are growing all the time and for what it is worth, if the place is crap then rate it as such.

Good suggestion - system already has it.

PS: I do really get upset when people ask were is a good blah and then all these links to heaps of other sites appear and no one has bothered to look at places. Also instead of posting a recommendation directly in the forum dump the place into the places system and point your form reply to the place, then others can add or update the text, position and photos of the place making the data better for all and not buried in the forum archives. PLEASE

I notice the "Places" section has the locations of 125 cemeteries but, perhaps unsurprisingly, no ratings.

How should one rate them? "Pretty dead" or "Very popular, people are dying to get into here"...?

As a bonus, don't you get point place credits when you add to this Places system?

I know I have received point place credits but I am not sure what for, I have added a few places myself and figure this is why I have credits????

Regards, Trevor.
